MiVision ?

Anybody tried the Mivision from Cyta? They have a free setup offer now and since I already have i-choice I decided to try Mivision also.

How does the quality compare to digital satellite like Nova?

Does anybody know if it is needed to connect the set-top box directly with the ADSL modem? Would it be possible to connect the set-top box to a router or switch instead? (of course the router would be connected to the ADSL modem)

hey dude! if you want to speak to some experts about mivision try cygaming forums www.cygaming.net

as far as i know mivision is NOT as good as NOVA, although the picture quality is digital in both systems. nova is better as it has a vast array of chanels, on-screen guides, internactice chanels, radio and the list goes on...

Frankly i would WAIT for cablenet because for just 10 pounds they will give you 45 chanels, if you live in a Nicosia they probably already offer it!!!!! http://www.nvcable.com.cy/

I hope Cyta do the right thing and CANCELL the stupid mivision service, it's a dissappointment and the extra bandwidth they STOLE from broadband users should be given back to us in form of an urgently needed upgrade to our lines, 1mb is simply not enough anymore!!!

With all due respect to cablenet, the channels that they broadcast are freeview channels, meaning that all you need is a 1.2 metre satellite dish, a standard reciever and hey presto, you get the channels that cablenet have for free, plus some more.

You can get things like Discovery in English, BBC Prime etc for free with 1.2 meter sat? Are you sure?

here are the channels of cablenet:

You can get all those with one 1.2m dish?

LOL hazza.... I just saw your location? "happy Andy?" LOL :D

Anyway, as for freeview channels you DO NOT get discovery or BBC prime. Also you need to pay the installation costs AND buy a very expensive Sat setup. With Cablenet you pay £40 installation and the signal can be split so ALL THE TV'S in your house can have cable WITHOUT a set-top box.
Nova is still king-of-the-hill but it has the highest fee of £27 per month, but for that price you get LTV+Alpha Sports+Adult channel+100other channels and a monthly magazine.

I already have I-choice, so for me Mivision is going to be 14 pounds per month and now the installation is free. What I care about is mostly documentaries and news. Is nova much better than mivision in these things?

In any case since installation is free I am not loosing anything to try it. As far as I know there are no commitment contracts. So I can try it for 1-2 months and then stop if I want, right?

Now apparently they dropped the price for both I-choice and Mivision (new prices valid after 1st June)

I-choice 1Mbit is going to be be 15 instead of 18 pounds and Mivision is going to be 10 pounds extra (instead of 14).

So now I-choice 1Mbit + Mivision = 25 pounds (instead of 32)

http://www.i-choice.cyta.com.cy/english/timologio.php

Now with the free installation offer and with no long term commitment I believe that Mivision should be an option to consider especially to those that already have i-choice.

In comparison, Nova Cyprus is about 26 pounds per month + 99 pounds installation + at least 4 months commitment .. but it offers more channels.

The other competitor, CableNet, offers more at the same price, but it is available only in very few areas.

I aready had i-choice when I installed MI-Vision. I am not very happy with it's quality. The picture 'freezes' often, disconnecting me from internet completely or just 'freezes' for a short while but in the most interesting scene in the movie. Rented movie can stop in the middle and throw me back to the main menu. When these things happen I have to reset the modem, as the cheerful technical support staff advises me, but it happens approximately once a day or two. They say than the service is new and they are working on improving :?

If you like watching quality TV then avoid mivision... Get "Nova Cyprus" or "Athina Sattelite TV" -available everywhere-, but if you have i-choice on the other hand and wouldn't mind having a few extra chanels 'on the cheap' then Mivision and Cablenet are for you, they are only £10.
We are a big family of 8 people and we have "I-choice 1000" and "Nova Cyprus", we pay around £27 for nova and £30 for Broadband (Ichoice1000 + SpiderADSL).
