I think that the intolerance is from man's interpretation of the religion, not the religion itself. Strictly adhering to say, the Khoran or the New Testament, then other religions are to be tolerated,!! But as with most religions, one can "pick and choose" the bits that most appeal. So when the world is in turmoil, (and certainly the middle East is at the moment), then the fanatics come forth and spew their hatred over all. A lot of these people who they preach hatred to are ignorant (as in uneducated) poor, and probably can't even read!!! It happened with Christianity - the inquisition for instance, and the Gentle Jesus I know and love would not have wanted that!! I don't blame the religion Miltiades, I blame the idiots that mis-use the religion for their own self importance and gain.

You thought you could "Rabble Rouse" a little condemnation of the Islamic faith and chose a channel 5 broadcast to create the atmosphere necessary to do so.

I wonder how he reconciles his pregudice, racism and miscomprehensions of the Islamic Faith whilst at the same time extending his fake message of brotherhood to the TCs.

Religious bigotry does not occur only from religious groups. It also occurs in extreme nationalistic ideologies. It occurs when certain persons are unable or insecure within themselves to accept others that may be a little different. This is not exclusive to any religious preachings or race. In fact all known religious preachings and doctrines, find intolerance unacceptable. It is MAN himself who brings this intolerance into being by misinterpreting the vague texts of the Bible or Koran.

Another form of prejudice and bigotry is displayed by Miltiades himself, when he on numerous occasions ridicules and insults all religious doctrines, whether they be Christian or Islamic. It is OK to be Agnostic or Atheist, but one must remember to be a gentlemen and not criticise the Christian or Islamic faith based on their inability to believe in any God. It also seems very interesting that Miltiades refrains to criticise the Jewish faith in the same way he does the Christian and Islamic faiths.

Intolerance to some GC and TC persons also occurs when we segregate individuals as "True Cypriots" and non "True Cypriots" just because they identify with Hellenic or Ottoman culture, or by have a differing viewpoint to Miltiades. And Miltiades is very guilty of playing these very ridiculous games, and surely by now he understands how badly he has shot himself in the foot by exposing his very own prejudice and hypocrisy!

Anyway, the last time I checked, no religion preaches hate or intolerance. It is human beings that misinterpret the teachings of their various faiths or use them for their own gains. This makes it a political issue, not a religious one.

There was a very interesting programme about the Koran on tv recently that showed how various scriptures are manipulated and deliberately misinterpreted in order to support the political agendas of certain Islamic countries. Copies are produced on a massive scale and fed down to the masses. This is hardly the fault of 'religion' and you can't blame all the people who absorb it either because they are being manipulated by others.

The way I see it, religion brings hope and comfort to billions of people around the world. Not all these people are terrorists or intolerant in any way. If one is inclined towards intolerance of any kind then he will find the justification for it anywhere, be it religion, nationalism, jealousy, hatred or a million other things.

Well spotted Purdey , I think the difference lies in the fact that I do not try to conceal my opinions, I like to seek the truth behind many of the incidents [particularly political] which take place in the world and will not accept b/s when the evidence of intent is so obvious.

I therefore must dispute your contention that I adopt the attitude you describe since I am quite often in the MINORITY and as such can hardly be accused of such.

As to the location of this particular topic, I would respectfully suggest that it is the result of "Milti the Cat's" attempt to hide it, possibly by some plea to Admin ? or other tricky device.

God alone knows and if he doesn't exist [according to "Milti the Cat"] we surely never will, unless we are given an explanation of course. IMHO
