Very interesting file, this gas business.

Think a new thread is called for... one with a suitably devious headline.

...it is not so far-fetched to imagine, that Erdogan will be standing in front of the flag of Cyprus shaking hands with somebody. though it does not require much to execute, and seems so trivial, in the end it would represent a fundamental change in thinking that would be a real challenge, to Cypriots, the vast majority being Greek, (as much as to Turkey, and its Citizenry, who for the most part struggle with the same need of recognition that as Individuals, it is essential that they are equals, (where success is based on merit) without any other distinctions or discriminations, standing United in defense of the Universal Principals, they seek as a State), but as Persons they are not all the same

Nikitas wrote:No one ever said that the GCs or any other people do not need water. What Turkey will be offering is CHEAPER water than can be obtained via desalination, in EXCHANGE for something. Turkey has never, ever, done anything for goodwill and for free. And as always there are hidden costs and not only those involved in dealing with Turkey.

The other suitors for the oil and gas are not exactly saints, but there is one difference between them and the Turks- they recognise Cyprus as a nation state, the Turks do not. It is that simple. Dealing with the others reinforces the RoC as a nation state, dealing with Turkey weakens it.

I realise it is flattering and ego boosting to think that Turkey has gone to untold expense to make this pipe line for the TCs. It is also risking a lot of prestige if it does not produce the amounts of water promised. But the realities are that it is one more Turkish gambit conceived and executed for their goals and not yours.

As for the tankers from Greece, this is known, and that solution proves that if water had been so necessary it could have been provided years ago with tankers. I said so in posts above. Half the Greek islands were tanker supplied till recently. So the question that rises is why not tankers till now, and why jump into a pipeline project so soon after the oil and gas leases were signed. Davut just told you why, but you want to kill the messenger because it happens to be a leading Greek paper.

I read back to exactly see that the GCs said noway will we buy Turkish water, we dont need it we have enough blah blah....and we TCs claimed the deal had been struck by the big boys for a water for gas exchange, in fact the rumours now are the pipe from Turkey is in fact pipes which will bring gas and electricity to Cyprus and gas back to Turkey....so those doubters can eat their own shit.
