Whats the rush boys, we have time on our side, oh yes, you don't do you, you need a quick solution because your EU application is about to expire huh?

cheeky lot, you have had 34 years to do this and now you are trying to blame the GC side AGAIN.

You know what they say in cyprus , siga siga! :lol: :lol:

see you all next year.

You still appear to have a nose bleed, allowing GCs to take things siga siga will mean that these talks will end up with no conclusion and you will have to negotiate with Turks who only settled 30 years ago they have absoloutely nothing in common with GCs and so do not sympathise with your concerns whatsoever, the choice is yours.

GREEK CYPRIOT SIDE AIMS TO CARRY CYPRUS PROBLEM TO 2009 BY SLOWING DOWN PROCESS

President Mehmet Ali Talat has said that the Greek Cypriot Administration was continuing to drag its feet on the Cyprus negotiations process in an attempt to carry the Cyprus Problem to 2009.

Speaking at a ceremony marking the start of the 2008-2009 academic year at the Middle East Technical University’s Cyprus Campus, the President underlined the need for the Turkish Cypriot Side to show the international community, mainly the European Union and the United Nations, how the Greek Cypriot Side was trying to slow down the talks.

“The Turkish Cypriot Side needs to overcome this obstacle. If it can’t then it must reveal to the European Union and the United Nations, the Greek Cypriot Side’s true intentions” he said.

Reminding that the Greek Cypriot Administration’s traditional policies were based on using the title of the so-called ‘Republic of Cyprus’ to isolate the Turkish Cypriot people from the rest of the world, the President warned that ongoing negotiations process was filled with difficult challenges.

Pointing out that a settlement to be found on the island will be the beginning of a new era in Cyprus, Talat said that the Turkish Cypriot people will experience a rapid economic and social growth under a new partnership based on political equality.

The President also underlined the important role universities in North Cyprus will play in achieving a lasting solution in Cyprus.

I thought that both sides had agreed to some kind of statement ban on the progress or otherwise of these talks yet every time a microphone is thrust in front of the Spokesperson for the northern community, Mr Talat, he doesn't miss the chance to blame the other side for some alleged lack of progress or other.

I really do fear that Spokesperson Talat is more concerned with the PR of attaching blame for future failures on the other side rather than any substantive progress in an equitable settlement. It seems to me that "recognition" and "partition" are the goals of this chap and of his masters Turkey.

PM SOYER SAYS TURKISH CYPRIOTS AND GREEK CYPRIOTS ARE EQUAL PARTNERS IN CYPRUS

Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer has said, the Turkish Cypriot struggle for existence might have changed in content as years passed, but this does not change the fact that Turkish Cypriots are equal right-holders and partners with Greek Cypriots in Cyprus.

Soyer stressed that the Turkish Cypriot goal is to establish a social order which will be able to fearlessly compete with Greek Cypriot partners in all fields of life.

The Premier’s statements came during the visit he paid to the Cyprus Turkish Fighters Association to exchange views on the new solution process in Cyprus.

Reminding of the resistance put up by the Turkish Cypriot People following the developments that occurred after the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus in 1960, Soyer said this resistance had created the struggle for existence.

‘During this struggle, fighters had staged a strong resistance under unequal conditions and Turkish Cypriots had entered into a new phase in Cyprus with Turkey’s Peace Operation in 1974 with its rights stemming from the international agreements of guarantorship’ Soyer said.

Prime Minister went on to say that this new situation on the island has now led to a new process envisaging a formation based on self determination of Turkish Cypriots on their own on a bi-zonal order and a political settlement on the basis of political equality of the two sides.

Mr Soyer defined the major aim as to bring about a mutually acceptable solution to the Cyprus problem which makes reference to the equal position of Turkish Cypriots as partners and Turkey’s guarantorship.

just a small caveat to all posts which include misleading govt posts of non-elected individuals in the Republic of Cyprus

RESOLUTION 541 (1983)

Adopted by the Security Council
on 18 November 1983

The Security Council,

Having heard the statement of the Foreign Minister of the Government of the Republic of Cyprus,

Concerned at the declaration by the Turkish Cypriot authorities issued on 15 November 1983 which purports to create an independent state in northern Cyprus,

Considering that this declaration is incompatible with the 1960 Treaty concerning the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus and the 1960 Treaty of Guarantee,

Considering therefore that the attempt to create a "Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus", is invalid, and will contribute to a worsening of the situation in Cyprus,

Reaffirming its resolutions 365(1974) and 367(1975),

Aware of the need for a solution of the Cyprus problem, based on the mission of good offices undertaken by the Secretary-General,

Affirming its continuing support for the United Nations Peace-Keeping Force in Cyprus,

Taking note of the Secretary-General's statement of 17 November 1983,

1. Deplores the declaration of the Turkish Cypriot authorities of the purported secession of part of the Republic of Cyprus;

2. Considers the declaration referred to above as legally invalid and calls for its withdrawal;

3. Calls for the urgent and effective implementation of its resolutions 365(1974) and 367(1975);

4. Requests the Secretary-General to pursue his mission of good offices in order to achieve the earliest possible progress towards a just and lasting settlement in Cyprus;

5. Calls upon the parties to cooperate fully with the Secretary-General in his mission of good offices;

6. Calls upon all States to respect the sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and non-alignment of the Republic of Cyprus;

7. Calls upon all States not to recognise any Cypriot state other than the Republic of Cyprus

8. Calls upon all States and the two communities in Cyprus to refrain from any action which might exacerbate the situation;

9. Requests the Secretary-General to keep the Security Council fully informed.

Separate self determination was something that Denktash had rejected in agreements with Clerides. Denktash realised that separate self determination is a double edged sword, if one side does it so can the other, and the results might not be all that pleasant.

economic organizations in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus have formally established the Economic Organizations Platform with the signing of a protocol.

The Platform is formed by the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce, the Businessmen Association, the Chamber of Industry, the Contractors’ Union, the Hoteliers’ Union, the Union of Employers’ and the Young Businessmen Association.

The Economic Organizations Platform aims to put forward ideas on general issues in addition to economic issues, such as the solution of the Cyprus problem, and particularly calls for the implementation of transition conditions necessary for the free-market economy.

The founding goals of the Platform include preparing projects and creating a leading vision on the implementation of contemporary practices, and making necessary efforts for the implementation of the free-market economy in the TRNC- which is defined as a liberal economic structure primarily based on the private sector.

The Platform also owns the vision to remain committed to democratic principles and the rule of law in the way towards making the free-market economy come into power.

Speaking during the signing ceremony of the protocol, the President of the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce- Hasan Ince said the current structure in the Republic is not a sustainable one and the 7 economic organizations have jointly formed the Platform to give a stronger voice on the issue.

News from the northern Cyprus.

ERCAKICA CALLS ON CHRISTOFIAS TO CLARIFY WHAT HE MEANT BY CONTRADICTORY’ STATEMENTS

The Presidential Spokesman Hasan Ercakica has called on the Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias to clarify what he claimed were contradictory statements by President Mehmet Ali Talat.

Responding to Christofias’s claims that President Ali Talat was speaking differently during negotiations and making contradictory statements outside talks, the Presidential Spokesman described the Greek Cypriot leader’s approach on the issue as shameful and immoral.

Ercakica told reporters during his weekly press briefing that the two leaders will be discussing how the executive organ of the new partnership will be when they meet again for a third time on the 10th of October.

He called on the Greek Cypriot leader to explain what he meant by contradictory statements, reassuring him that the Turkish Cypriot Side will not see this as a violation of the press blackout the two sides agreed to.

Pointing out that the Greek Cypriot Administration’s statements were part of an operation to manipulate the negotiations process, Ercakica said that the Turkish Cypriot Side will calmly be able to overcome such attempts.

“We would like the Turkish Cypriot people to know that there is a complete consistency in what President Talat has been talking inside and outside the talks process” he added.

Explaining that the President has asked the Greek Cypriot leader what was it that he had violated by speaking on Turkish State Television, Ercakica however said that Talat had failed to receive an answer.

Responding to a question on the Yesilirmak Gate, the Presidential spokesman said that there were no new developments on the issue and that they were still waiting for the Greek Cypriot Side to present its views on several issues.

Ercakica also told reporters that the President had briefed representatives of political parties yesterday on the latest stage reached in the negotiations process.

He said such assessment meetings will continue in the future.

News from Northern Cyprus.

The Cyprus Socialist Party visited the Greek Cypriot AKEL party today within the framework of visits held under its campaign “The Solution: the Anti-Imperialist United Front”
Speaking to the press at the end of the meeting, AKEL Spokesman Nicos Katsourides said that they were happy to have received the CSP delegation.

He said that the two parties, if not on all issues, shared the common vision regarding one country, one people and the reunification of the island.

For his part, the Secretary General of the Cyprus Socialist Party Yusuf Alkim reminded that the Anti-Imperialist United Front campaign was the policy of the Cyprus Communist Party established in 1920.

Stating that the CSP did not expect a solution to come out of the ongoing negotiations process launched by the two leaders recently, Alkim reminded that the Socialist Party was not only a Turkish Cypriot political party, but the party of all Cypriot workers and laborers.
