i was thinking that in cyprus we dont have any big monuments like colosseum, parthenon, eiffel tower etc.is it time to make one?how about a big statue, around 100-150m?it could represent eg. victory or freedom or peace or whatever!!!i think we need something impressive but nobody dares to demand it(i use the word demand,bc the word "ask" will not be effective). i had this talk with several people last summer and they all agreed that we do need something impressive in our cities.
so what do you think?any ideas what this statue or whatever should be?

Bigger doesn't always mean better sk... no need to follow the American ethos on this side of the pond...

What is our new Parliament going to look like? I havent seen it.

I agree though, I would like to see a gigantic stature of Sampson and Grivas both raising swords that cross each other over the entrance of a port or something. Maybe another of Makarios, around 1500 Metres tall, holding a gigantic cross in one hand which he is using to crush a copy of quran which standing atop a pedestal.

We need a new Cathedral as well, a really, really, really, really big once, three times as big as Agia Sophia, around 2000 Metres in Length and perhaps at the tallest dome 5000 Metres high, on top of this would be set a gignatic cross 50 Metres in Diameter and made out of Solid 30 Carot Gold. There would be a room which had a gigantic open top roof at the back that retracts to let in light and every Sunday here all people from across Cyprus would assemble and organize a giant burning of all Qurans that they could find.

Another feature I would like would be gates that enter Nicosia on Nicosia - Larnaca Motorway, along the run up to these huge gates, which would be patrolled by an Honor Guard at all times, would be 20 Giant Statues on Pedestals on either side of the road, each one would be set atop a pedestal and there would be Heroes of Hellenism like Pericles, Themistocles, Alexander e.t.c. They would all be holding massive swords in one hand and gigantic crosses in another, the height of each of these would be each 1200 Metres. Near the gates there would be one MASSIVE statue that had one leg on either side of motorway, it would be of Tasos Papadopoulos holding a burning torch as if he has just recieved it from hero of Cyprus - Makarios, leading the way forward, in the other hand would be a giant sword that he would be holding up. At the heighest point of this sttatue, the sword that Papadopoulos is holding, would be around 8000 Metres in height.

I was watching this film the other day where this black dude's murdered the two white guys who raped his 10-year old daughter. He went to court and was acquitted.

Does anyone think we'd have a chance against morons like this guy?

You should learn Greek before you try to insult me in it. Try it in English, that might get you somewhere.

But why not, Noose? What's wrong with THAT part of the American ethos?

by thinking that bigger means better you disregard the important part of monuments: details. thats why Greeks have the Parthenon which has been an architectural wonder for millenia and the Americans had the massive twin towers which.. well are no longer around.

 The admin is a fascist? Why's that? :?

Anyway, I'd think that if Lady Liberty were to have been built in real size (as in, the size of an actual person), she wouldn't be as impressive and hardly the symbol of New York, or the depiction of the 'Home of the brave, Land of the Free'...
I guess what I'm saying is that size isn't bad. The Pyramids are an architectural wonder, but would they be what they are if they weren't as big? What is the Great Wall, if not the awe its massiveness causes?

There was a proposal to have a giant statue of Aphrodite coming out of the water at Petra tou Romiou; thank goodness this idea died and it will never blight our seascape!

Let us get our motoroways and Limassol flyover finished on time, before we attempt the absurd!

Firtsly, don't forget the French designed lady liberty. secondly, there's a difference between something being built just to be big and something that is built and is big as well as glorious.

i think that is what moose was referring to.
