coming out there

Postby Steve & Dawn » Thu May 26, 2005 9:48 am

:D We are fed up with life in the UK and would love to set up home in Cyprus. My wife and i are both in our fortys. My wife has a vast clerical background including Royal Mail management and i am a bricklayer, neither of us scared of hard work. At the moment we are both taxi drivers.
What are the chances of us finding work out there? We will greatly appreciated any feedback

Thanks

Well the construction industry is rampant all over cyprus, so i would imagine quality brick layers are in demand but the best bet is go for a few weeks and you will see exactly what you can get employement wise.

Good Luck :)

There are a couple or three British Developer here too, maybe someone might be able to give you the names of them, I think one is Laine Homes. How many times have you been to Cyprus, there are one or two things to consider, life is different to that in the UK, you have to accept the slower pace of life / customs / culture...etc etc

I'm sure if you can accept that, life here in Cyprus beats the UK hands down. I came three years ago with little knowledge of Cyprus and it took me a good two years to get used to it. Everytime I go back to the UK, its a great reminder of where I'd rather be - Cyprus!

There is plenty of work in the building trade, but you'll need to be ready to sweat your ass off if you're going to be a bricky here, especially in the summer 8)

It's not just hot, it's boiling !!!

I can only speak for the Paphos region but because of the downturn in property sales, or perhaps 'saturation of supply', more accurately, foreign workers are being laid off building sites and only Cypriots are retaining their jobs. But it is poorly paid and very hard work in this heat.

The glut of unemployed foreigners, with no system of social benefits (many work illegally) is going to cause problems here this Summer, I fear.
