GPRS internet charges

Postby coredump » Thu May 26, 2005 10:47 pm

Does anybody use GPRS in Cyprus?
I tried to use it just for a few days and was charged CYP 90+! The rates are ridiculous :( 2 pounds per Mb! :(
What can we do about this? What about GPRS prices/rates in other EU countries?
Probably it's worth studying GPRS rates in other EU countries and try to push Cyta to reduce rates. If they refuse we can try to do it via anti-monopoly authorities in Cyprus (if there are any) and EU.
What do you think about this?

Yes! Just found out that Areeba introduced "GPRS unlimited" option:

Does anyone use Areeba?

The GPRS rates in the UK are in the same ball park as well.

As a long term 'campaigner' for cheaper and more abundant internet access in the UK I personaly would advise you to direct your efforts at the availability and cost of wired (and wireless but not mobile phone based) internet access.

Areeba "unlimited" seems very good for people that use a lot of GPRS.

I never used GPRS because I know how expensive it is.

How fast is it (in reality, not the specification)? If you use your mobile as a modem and you connect it to your notebook, can you expect speeds like a 56K modem at least?

Yes it should be comparable to a land line based 56k modem.
