Postby X__Alien » Fri Jun 03, 2005 8:34 pm

Hi!

I'm from Portugal, and next September i hope to be in the Frederick Institute as an Erasmus student.

I only know a few things about Cyprus. So, there's anyone around who could give me some info? About the language, food, life cost, etc...

The citys i'm looking foward to go are Limasol or Nicosia.

hi and welcome to the forum!well, life in cyprus is easy going and relatively relaxing!its not very cheap but as long as you know where to go and what to buy its ok.....i think nicosia has more things to do during winter than limassol....its a good place for going excursions to the mountains......if you dont have to rent a place i would say about 350-400cyp are enough for a month...400cyp is about 680-700 euros....phone calls are cheap and you can always find cheap places to eat.....coffees though are quite expensive(about 2.50-3 cyp).......
how long will you stay?i will be moving back to cyprus also at the end of september,i currently live in budapest, hungary!
if you need more info or someone to go out with pm me and i will send to you my email !

I will going to Cyprus next September, until January or February 2006. I will be in the Frederick Institute, that as far as i know it has two parts: one in Nicosia, other in Limassol. I don't know to wich one i will go. Limassol looks great, but it must be more expensive!

Here in Portugal, we could stay in a room, with 2 or 3 more students at the same house, for about 150 euros each.

Cyprus is not cheap... definetely more expensive than Portugal, but you can get by... depends what you wanna do!

I'd suggest you goto Limassol rather than Nicosia. It has a wider expatriate population, seaside, easy access to the mountains, relaxed life and I'd figure just as much to do as Nicosia. Rent in Nicosia I think is more expensive but apart from that, theyre practically identical price-wise.

Things to do ermm off the top of my head (in Limassol):
2 Waterparks
2 Bowling Centres (Space Bowling is excellent)
4 Cinema complexes (Othellos, Cineplex, Rio)
3 nightlife areas (Galatex, Enaerios and Lanitis Mill)
Some nice beachside bars/cafes.
Lotsa food places.
Shooting club is up the mountain a bit, but good.
Elias Country Club (green bowling, horse riding etc.)
Waterspots and lots of'em
The beach of course....
Trips to Troodos Mountains, villages...
Close to Paphos, which is real nice.
Lotsof shops, brand names etc. if thas what you're into....

Can't really think of much else but sure there's some stuff you can figure out.... oh and paintball :P Go-karts!

Have fun!

Limassol is better for foreigners and accommodation is cheaper. However the Frederic of Nicosia offers more courses. Therefore the first thing you should do is to make sure that all courses you will need are offered at Frederic of Limassol also.

In general Cyprus is not very expensive. Products are usually more expensive than other European countries, but most services are cheaper.
However I suspect that in average it should be more expensive than Portugal, since I think Portugal is one of the cheapest countries in EU.
