Computer problems

Postby CBBB » Tue May 19, 2009 3:16 pm

I am playing with two laptops that have that wonderful product Vista installed. On one of the machines my browsers (Firefox and Internet Explorer) display spaces in URLs and downloaded files as '%20' (I know this is a space) on the other it is shown correctly as a space. This causing web pages not to be found.

I can't see any obvious differences in their set-ups.

Any ideas from any of you?

The only time I get that problem is when I compile one of my websites LOCALLY and then attempt to open linked files, instead of running it from the host server.

I access the same sites from both machines and get the different results, but it appears to have something to do with HTML.

It is a very bad practice to use spaces in URLs. What website is that? The website should have the space encoded into %20 in the link or even better not use space at all. But usually browsers can cope with this error. I don't know why yours can't.

I know that Sotos, but as I said with one Vista machine I get the problem, with the other (actually all the others I've tried) I don't. It must be some setting in Vista. Perhaps I will just zap it and start again.

As soon as you mentioned that word Vista I thought "Bag of Shite" I think zapping it is your best option
