Liza, I would prefer to step on a dog's piss or shit rather than a broken bottle of beer, a can of coke, a plastic bag with rotten eggs, a mayo sub...

I'd prefer not to step in anything, and I'd prefer my kids to have a clean and safe place to play.

But Liza dear, it is clean. We have to distinguish between clean and repellent or disgusting… Anything organic IS clean. I can understand that NONE wants to find that kind of clean organic substances on the beach or wherever else –including myself, but lets not get frantic here.

I have observed that dogs are practically banned from anyplace in Cyprus and in most cases without any reasonable arguments. I was taught that if I have a headache I should take an aspirin, NOT cut off my head. It is about time -far all- to realize who is littering this wonderful country/island and take the appropriate measures.

It is about time that young Cypriots get a few extra classes at school and start building a more friendly society towards dog and pets in general…

Hi Panos,
I agree with you to some extent that the GC's are not very dog friendly, but believe me I am not ignorant or uneducated. My mother is British, I was brought up in a household full of pets and till now my mum has her dog sleeping in the bedroom right next to her bed, I am "animal friendly", but I'm just expressing my wish to see clean beaches and as you don't have kids (this I presume correct me if I'm wrong) you won't be able to understand fully my concern, my little girl is 2 yrs old, when we go to the beach its enivitable and unavoidable that she ends up with sand in her ears/mouth/ eyes etc... the thought of a dog / cat / human taking a dump in the area she's playing is disgusting.

Two years ago we were on a very quiet beach in Limassol, near the mediterranean beach hotel, there was an elderly woman (russian I think) she had a small poodle which she happily allowed to take a dump right next to my 3 yr old son I was furious to say the least!

As I told you earlier, do not judge the dog's behavior, judge his human master's behavior.

And, YES, I am single with no kids, but hey... isn't one dog enough...

most of my family in cyprus chain them to a tyre and throw stones at them. not to mention soaking bread in ouzo and feeding them. and as for cats. a moving target for air-rifles

True... they've both disappeared, so maybe I was successful... Marinella's probably padlocked the bedroom door so Thrill can't escape...
