Excursions and places to see

Postby AnnDaley7 » Wed Jul 08, 2009 12:17 pm

We are coming to Cyprus in August (wow hot!!!) and we are staying at a friend's villa in Tala. Because it isn't a package holiday there obviously won't be any welcome party or reps with information. Can anyone tell me of any excusions/places to visit/bars/restaurants in the area please. I've been told Tala Village has a few bar/restaurants and we are really looking forward to seeing and visiting those (hic!). Or if anyone has any links for places to visit or things to do (not too strenuous please) that would be much appreciated. Or indeed, if there are any day excursions i.e. zoos or shopping trips etc.
Regards
Annie

Not sure what I am offering is what you need, but here it goes:

I would especially recommend a walk from Laourou Beach to Agios Georgios port. You will go by 2 sets of sea caves and interesting rock formations. The route is not strenuous.

If you are into nature, there are many things to do, eg visit beaches (some not too touristic).
I would refrain from saying more at this point :-)

Have fun

Thank you - that's just the type of information I'm looking for.

Hi Annie

Tala Square has several bars/tavernas but you will be surrounded by ex-pats.

Visit one of the wineries in Kathikas or try one of the excellent tavernas there in the evening. Mosaics in Pafos, Pafos Harbour, the Bird and Animal Park, the Last Castle (Taverna) as you drive onto the Akamas - but not at weekends. There are beautiful churches, including one in Pomos, fish tavernas by the beach at Latsi, lots of water sports etc.

Try to avoid 'tourist' restaurants - you will pay high prices and be served by unsmiling Eastern Europeans. I had an excellent meal at the Avalon Taverna, this Saturday, half way between Pafos and Coral Bay.

Do not spend all your time by the pool, you will miss so much.

I stayed over night with friends in Tala, last month (I live in Larnaca) we went into the little village square to find something to eat, but it was Sunday and we wanted a fish Meze, so the only place that would serve that was just off a very narrow road to the top of the square, I am sorry I did not take a note of the name, we have 3 meat meze and 3 fish meze, there were 6 adults and 2 children in our party, it was the best meze I have had in Cyprus, the food and the building was so traditional.
