Atletico Madrid held 0-0 at home by APOEL Nicosia
Reuters - September 16, 2009, 8:38 am

MADRID, Sept 15 (Reuters) - Atletico Madrid were held to a 0-0 draw by Champions League debutants APOEL Nicosia in their Group D match on Tuesday.

Atletico struggled to create openings in the first half and APOEL striker Constantinos Charalambides squandered two glorious chances to give the visitors the lead.

Abel Resino's home side were booed off at the break and although they came out with more purpose for the second period they could not find a winner.

Jurado and Diego Forlan both forced acrobatic saves from Dionisios Chiotis, Sergio Aguero just failed to get on the end of a cross from substitute Maxi Rodriguez and Forlan struck a post near the end but APOEL held firm.

Was there any doubt?
