Posts going off topic

Postby dms007 » Tue Jul 12, 2005 3:32 pm

To the Moderators and anyone else who is interested.....

I have noted this bad phenomenon that is happening on this forum....

During some point in time the posts for a particular thread goes away from the topic.

This was not just the case with my thread named "What should I say to cypriot women".... I was browsing through some other threads and I saw the same thing happening elsewhere too.

I also found out that this was due to some "nice guy" who is kind enough to post an irrelevant message and it starts a string of more irrelevant messages, thereby rendering the thread useless as the messages are out of context.

Iam just a new member on this forum and Iam sorry for speaking out too soon.

So I would want to know if there could be something that the moderators could do to help.
I also request the users to be more sensible when posting the replies.

Thanks,
dms007

Dms, since this is the general chat section of the forum, it is likely that a topic will go off subject eventually. It tends to happen if the original topic is not robust enough to contain a lengthy conversation, such as advice about travelling within Cyprus or best places to stay on the island, to be brutally honest your post about how to chat up women is not what I would regard as a substantial issue. Your post should also have been posted in the 'Meet New People' section of the forum, but that is besides the point. It's not an excuse for posts that go off topic, but that is the responsibility of the moderators to ensure this does not happen. However, if you make this section too circumscribed, you will end up with a million threads, all with one or two responses.

To be completely honest with you, this section fulfills the unrequited chat room desires of some forum users. If you're looking for threads that stay on track, I'd suggest that you look in the more substantive sections - Cyprob, Cyprus-EU and Politics. Those are where thread-hopping is more disruptive.

Majority of forum users are respectful now to the point where they do not go off topic but unfortunately there is always one disgruntled person who will try and ruin it for others and they will be dealt with accordingly.

If you have any complaints please do not open a new thread but instead direct your complaint to the moderators via PM.

Take that back you swine!

I will have u know that it is an art form this going off topic thing.

I can only guess that u r jealous of my far superior skills.

It takes a highly inteligent person to have a constructive conversation in this here fine forum.

Just because u cannot aspire to reach these heights is of no fault of mine or possibly any one else.

Er, I'm sorry what was the question again?
