Hi Steve and Dawn

If you are considering a property purchase in Cyprus, why would you want a UK based Cypriot property lawyer? It is a very expensive and time consuming route to property purchase, IMHO. They will need a Greek speaking local contact to liase with Land Registry, check Title Deeds etc. The one person I knew who did this ended up paying £4000 in Fees. They will also not know the local area/gossip about the vendor/developer, which is a disadvantage.

What is wrong with getting a Cypriot based lawyer, they all speak English and most were trained in the UK! Give them Power of Attorney; they cannot spend your money or sign major documents without a fax or Email confirmation from you, so you remain in control.

I second Lana's comments, seems a bit of a tortuous route to follow when phone calls and emails to a lawyer in Cyprus would work just as well for a fraction of the cost.

Good evening Dawn & Steve
(Ladies name first)
I agree with the advice given & we are assuming it is for purchase on the Island. I use Lawyers in Cyprus while I am not there and cannot find anything to fault them on. I also use lawyers in the UK who again are pretty good but for Cyprus work it must be a Cyprus based lawyer it will save you in the end.
Best of luck anyway with whatever you plan.

The very best of luck to you both. I hope all works out as you hoped, I'm, sure it will.
I see you are from Newcastle, I have fond memories of the Royal Victoria Infirmary at the University there where many years ago I came to England and undertook trials at the Hyperbaric centre there. I lived with a team under Hyperbaric conditions in one complex and adjacent to us were an adjoining chamber full of pigs. Consequently if anyone ever tells me I am not fit to live with pigs I can legitimatly claim that I am.
