Positive action

Propose and discuss specific solutions to aspects of the Cyprus Problem

Postby city » Sat Jul 16, 2005 2:02 pm

Erolz, I think this is a very nice idea!

It serves many purposes:

1. the cemetaries are taken care of
2. other people see that there are individuals that do something and are able to work together, no matter if they are TC or GC
3. forum members get to know each other in person
4. better possibility to exchange views and opinions AND get to know how others feel and think
5. on the long term, actions like you suggested, will be the source and also only way imho to solve the CyProb. People need to get to know and respect each other.

If everyone just sits and waits until the politicians find a solution, nothing will happen in the foreseeable future. But if individuals start moving and acting there is a lot that can be achieved. (see reunification of Germany or orange revolution in Ukraine)

To decline your suggestion just because it doesn't instantly reach the overall political goals doesn't make much sense imo.

How should the island ever be united if people refuse to meet the other side??? How can one say the goal must be reached first before I start doing anything for it?

The question is: Is the goal one united Cyprus with equal citizens and no discrimination based on race?
Erolz has already answered "no" to this question. So what kind of solution will these meetings help to achieve?

Probably any. You can not judge from the distance, without knowing people, whether there can be an agreed solution or not and if so which one it could be.
The point is this "not waiting for the politicians to do something". Thats what I'm after.

i just signed in

where the hell was this forum hidden for so long?

further bla bla on whether it helps or not i would consider not necessary.

anyone who feels like it, why not?
anyone who doesnt feel like it, well what the hell come as well. who knows perhaps you will like it :)

but i have the feeling that we are all waiting for the other side to make the first step (i mean thats not any big surprise considering all those years we have to bear with the stupitidy of our politicians - it inevitably influenced us)

i return to cyprus on the 28th ... stupid exams
i propose saturday 30th of july.
erolz propose a place (to meet and then start cleaning)
if the date is not good. well... propose another one.

see u

Welcome to the forum

I will be going to the (GC) cemetary to 'tidy up' that I mentioned before , even if it is with just myself and my partner. Undoubtedly we will rope in a few more people from the North as well. I am in the processes of making sure that there is no problem in us doing this with the local authorites and fixing a date. When this is done I will post the details and invite anyonr from the south who wants to join it. I very much hope we can get some people from the south to join in and then to extend the idea to a TC cemetary in the south next. I will keep you posted

Erol, may I say that I strongly approve of your suggestion. Thinking as a psychologist, and as a normal human being ofcourse, this is exactly the kind of "corrective emotional experience" that our country needs if we are to overcome the bitterness of the past.

I disagree with Piratis that such things do not make a difference - because such experiences help us to change our vision for the future of Cyprus, and therefore help us to moderate our positions at the negotiating table.

If I was in Cyprus I would definitely have come along. Pity I am not.

Erolz,

Fantastic Idea!!!. I won't be in Turkey and Greece until mid to late August so I can't help personally but I would be willing to make a financial donation. If you're interested email me with info. BTW I'm new to the forum hello to everyone.
