Would there likely be violence against them if they fraternised closely with mainland Turks, as suggested in Professor Volkan's paper?

i dont know to be honest i just know they hate mainland turks and the way they speak everything about them.. most my tc friends claim they will leave cyprus if cyprus is not re unified..

but hurt? as suggested in Professor Volkan's paper? i would have to ask them next time i see them.. but i doubt it

when i go into the north you see a lot of fanatics a lot of people driving around with huge turkey flags in their car.. as well as the white turkey number two one.. they really like to stick turkey flags every step of the way in the north.. sure there is some in the south(greek) but not like in the north and at least in the south we put the cypriot flag..

even infront of the greek churches they put turkish flags.. could you imagine us putting greek flags infront of the mosque what bad reaction we would get from the turks?

Hardly.

Up until very recent times there was hardly a solely "urban" population in Cyprus in the first place.

Even those who lived in towns still had strong connections to the countryside and the rural lifestyle, so the lifestyles of the urban and rural populations wasnt great enough for there to be a social divide between the two.

Well.. believe it or not... I'm the TC who experienced the townee-villager discrimination... even when we(urban TCs) get angry with any of our village-rooted elders; we accuse them still bearing the old, stupid villager mentality.

zmx, if u r not a TC, u can't claim that u know better than me...

Well then your claims for a separate state based on differences between GCs and TCs is totally stupid. Differences exist within all spheres. So get out of the north and stop demanding your own state! Or are you going to make mini-statelets between urbanites and ruralites? Learn to be tolerant and treat people as equals.

Gawd you are so pathetic ....

I'm getting a picture of the following (obviously generalisations but interesting nonetheless): young TCs favour reunification (or may leave), old TCs don't; urban and rural TCs have different attitudes (to Turks, what about to reunification?); TCs, in general, don't mix with Turks. Correct?

The townsfolk still had strong connections to the countryside, most of them owned land in the countryside and were involved in some sort of agricultural practices during certain periods of the year, so they could hardly be described as a real "urban" population.

and yes i am TC and i can say that there isnt a deep social division between townspeople and rural peoples as the lifestyle between the two was never different enough in the first place for a totally different mindset to "evolve" between the two.

when you say r eunification you have to be clear because when the turks say it they mean two states under one means re unification.. in their world it does,, to normal people re unification means getting rid of the line not having two states under one state..
