the old greek lady in the mountain village who made her son drive me all the way back to limassol when i missed the bus back and wont accept a penny for petrol
the men in the coffee shop who gave me a condenced history of cyprus and more fruit than i could carry
the lads at the tunnel nightclub who took me to the clinic and stayed with me when i broke my ankle
theo andy and george from rumours who made 2000 one of the best years

Hi Jacky 39 and welcome to the forum,

Some of the posts you have read are quite old and posted by bitter people who had a bad experience and are not mature enough to accept the actions of one individual but prefer to paint the whole population with the same slur, take no notice and if it touches you deeply do what others do and tell them straight without insult what the real cypriots are really like.

All the best Brother

Hi Jacky

This forum covers a broad church of folk, some have extreme ideas, some just like to put up provocative statements to 'get people going'. My personal stance is not to bother to respond to those 'mean of spirit and weak of mind'. Eventually, they give up and go off elsewhere to bother someone else.

I have found only warmth from the Cypriot people, but when they are competing with you in business - or work for the Government, people's attitudes can be very different. But hey, I am a guest in this lovely country so I accept that this is a fact of life.

As alot of you know, I work outdoors pulling cable. There is a team of 8 of us doing this. This morning, somebody came out of their house, counted how many of us there were and bought us all a glass of cold lemon squash to drink. At lunch time, we were all sitting down eating our sandwiches when a lady from across the road came over and offered us all a coffee which we all accepted. Later on in the afternoon, the bloke that gave us all a lemon squash drove past us, stopped and told us that we are more than welcome to go to his house for a cold drink, and that he had already told his wife to expect us.

This was just today, which is pretty much a typical day here. Makes you wonder how many other places in the world do you get people making such gestures?

Ok, you do get the occasional idiot who doesn't like non Greek Cypriot people, but that is very very rare.
