peh. If USA supported them, They will become friend of USA.
Didnt PM of Greece went usa for this?

If you said yes, Turkey will go out of island. This can show how Turkey expansionalist. But TC and GC cant agree about this topic and this is not guilt of Turkey.

How come Turkey can deny the right to use them then?

im not sure how many bases the USA has and where in Turkey they are located but by definition the USA can do whateer they want in their bases. I know this because planes flew off to Iraq from the US bases in Crete in Greece.

Why would planes fly all the way from Crete to Iraq!!!! Isn't Turkey nearby?

Besides Greece was against military action in Iraq.

MT get your facts right please!!!US does NOT own the bases!!I know this because Turkey could cancel or renew the contract of USA about the bases. This was renewed last year if my memory serves me right. And US can ask whatever it wants but this is reviewed by the Turkish army and the Turkish gov, edited if necessary then it is cancelled or renewed!!

more bumps on the road for Turkey:

France, Germany speak up on Cyprus
By Costas Iordanidis

French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin’s declaration — that the launch of Turkey’s accession talks with the European Union is “inconceivable” unless Ankara recognizes Cyprus — is an exceptionally interesting development, chiefly for Greece, but also because it heralds the emergence of a new balance of power in the European Commission.

The fact that Villepin’s statement was echoed by Friedbert Pflueger, foreign policy spokesman for Germany’s Christian Democrats (CDU) — expected to take power in next month’s elections — is a sign that the Germans and French are regrouping in the face of aggressive tactics by British Prime Minister Tony Blair, who they see as curbing their influence.

In fact, this was a deft move by Villepin, as he shook up the plans of the British EU presidency — which had intended to focus on fiscal concerns and changes to the Common Agricultural Policy — and imposed other issues on the agenda, such as the obligation by Turkey to recognize all members of the club it aspires to join. Villepin was evidently acting in accord with President Jacques Chirac, sidelining prospective challenger Nicolas Sarkozy, a champion of the Anglo-Saxon model; so conservative France is embracing Gaullism once again. Meanwhile, the stance of the CDU is understandable, as party chief Angela Merkel had made it clear she opposed Turkey’s full membership in the EU from the outset...

also greek newspaper kathimerini posted a good editorial on this issue claiming that Cyprus is nothing but an excuse for France and Germany's hostile stance towards Turkey:

It seems to me that France and Germany are going to use Cyprus for their own agends but can you blame them, the citizens of Fr and Ger. are notoriousley racist people and this shone through in the vote for the now rejected constitution and their leaders are reacting as required to keep their public happy.
Cyprus now from feeling that she could get concessions from Turkey must feel like a sinking ship as the turkish EU aspirations look very much in doubt and that means no solution or concessions hence the big stalemate will continue.

This is what happens when Tassos did not negotiate in goodwill or tried to resolve the cyprus problem but instead just went for the denktas stance of do 'nothing' he has truely let all cypriots down but i guess he will be o.k sitting in his presidential palace while the ordinary cypriot carries on waiting for a solution he has no interest of finding imo.
