Restoring the 1960 Constitution

Postby Turker » Tue Jul 13, 2004 4:56 pm

Mr. Clerides stated a few years ago that all they want was restoring the constitution.

Do you think the restoring action would be useful regarding the politic, economic structure of time and the role of EU?

Would it be useful? Please write your oppinions about why and why not...

Note:

I think for Greeks and Turks there is no way of compromise for the same plan, but restoring the constitution, as it provides a bi-communal unitary state.

I also wonder what tha Turks think of it...

Please write.

I think that would be the greatest thing that could happen in Cyprus. The Turkish Cypriots will have nothing to fear, they will be EU citizens. BUT that's wishful thinking. Neither the Turks nor the many separatists in the north will allow that to happen. Especially after the referrendum...they are trying to establish themselves as a constituent state ( constituent to what?)

I don't think that we can return back to Republic Of Cyprus.
Because;
 Federal solution style is accepted by both Greek and Turkish Cypriot leaders in 1977.

Also Greek Cypriots made Republic Of Cyprus a Hellenic republic and bi-communal RC died.
They made many many changes and accepted many laws that is completly incompatible withTurkish Cypriots. We didn't approved that laws and changes yet. They did by theirself.

This wouldn't have happened if you had stayed with us. You can't secede from the government and then accuse them of not thinking about your needs.

And another thing - we never had a vice-president because the seat is there waiting for you.

When did you said to Turkish Cypriots and declared that you are ready to give our rights in RC to world? TCs declined it?

We don't need to declare it, maybe you don't know this but your leaders certainly do. We have never occupied your positions in the government.

Peace said....They made many many changes and accepted many laws that is completly incompatible withTurkish Cypriots. We didn't approved that laws and changes yet. They did by theirself....."

Thats right! And 98% of them you already accepted and were incorporated in the Anan plan.Remember the 20,000 pages of laws?
So whats your problem? Why don't you say it clearly?
You don't want a Unitary State, you want a separate state in disguise of a so called "federal".

Well maybe it will sometime be a real Federal one (not 2 separate states in disguise).Do you know how much I will laugh after I see all of you ordinary people TCs and GCs complaining that "hey every 2 of us must work to feed one lazy Government employee"?

Federation is too costly my dear. The Government machine gets triplicate in most sectors!! Cyprus is too small a place to affort it economically. The best solution is a Bi-Regional UNITARY state. You will still be the bosses in your living region....

Are you serious my friend? Were you following the discussions of the past or what? Clerides proposed that to Denktash hundreds of times. The answer was always "Don't even mention it-fullstop". And that was the end of discussion indeed.
