Hey there SB (perilously close to SoB - no disrespect intended). Have you seen 'High Fidelity' with John Cusack? If you haven't, I highly recommend it - something tells me you'll love it.

Cool nick, by the way, I was going to ask if you hadn't explained it.

Good Thread Saint Jimmy - shame alot of the other regulars haven't posted anything about themselves yet.

Anyway...for privacy reasons I will conceil my real name, but would like to be known as Missy! I am soon to be 28 (boo hoo). I'm currently living in Cyprus, born n bread in east London, studied art n design for 5 years, (basically dossed about, avoiding responsibilities), got my Masters In Graphic Design, and now working for an Advertising agency. I enjoy fine dining, smoking the odd cuban cigar (love the smell), good music (anything ranging from Old skool soul, rare groove classics, Jazz funk - to latino jazz - hate greek music, find it a torture to listen to!), I enjoy watching films... (im starting to sound like some desperate lonely hearts ad) , admit to being abit of a film buff, Im scared of heights, Ronald Mc Donald and anything linked to Devil Worshipping!

When im not stuck in front of a mac working, or posting replies on this site, Im usually out networking, finding work for my little empire that I have built up!
My favourite primary colour is blue, favourite number is 3, favourite chocolate is "Picnic" - but as a child it used to be this chocolate they stopped making (for unknown reasons) called CABBANA - And a chocolate called OVELTINA - anyone remember that?

Anyway... appoligies for boring you all with my details...(hate mail to be send to the usual address!) ciao!

My name's Leon, I have always (and still do) lived in a half posh/half rough estate just ut of a town near Leicester. My father is Cypriot and my mother is English. I've been going to Cyprus every year since the age of 8 (I'm 14 now). All of my family live around me and we're all close from each other. None of us are racist, homophobic and hate the way people are treated in this world. We're not rich, we get very little but we don't let our standards drop low and we still manage to buy very nice clothes, have a lovely house and go to Cyprus for a month.

RANDOM USELESS FACTS ABOUT MY LIFE

I have black hair, dark brown, Greek eyes. I think I look English but about only half of the people I've asked agree. My English auntie lives in Cyprus and is also married to a Cypriot and has three children. They live in the same village as my Cypriot family. I can speak, read and write Greek because I actually care about my roots and don't wanna forget unlike a lot of English-Cypriots today who are letting us down. My mum is a lesbian and I don't care. When my (English) grandma was young her and her siblings were known as the 'j' family because there names were (in chronological order): Joe, Josephine, Jasmin, Janet, Jackie, Jim, John, Jennifer. My great-grandmother actually bore thirteen babies but five died during infancy and eight survived (the 'j' family). My grandma talks really, really strange English. She comes from a small village about one mile away from where we live and a lot of the words were changed, shortened, or pronounced odd ('okey' is 'ice-cream'; 'wescot' is 'waistcoat'; 'cerstificate' is certificate'; 'eeeeya', 'weeeeya' and 'theeeeya' are 'here', 'where' and 'there' respectively). My mum went on holiday to see her sister who already lived there, met a Cypriot bloke and returned pregnant with me. She gave birth and called my dad only to be told he'd been a bastard and married another woman! Oh dear! So I only met my dad, and two half-siblings (one of each sex) when I first went to Cyprus in 1999 aged 8. I love Cyprus and I returned from my holiday this year just this morning. I don't like where I live anymore and it's too cold. My English grandma looks really foreign. She has really dark skin, jet black hair and is darker than me after I get a one-month Cyprus suntan. Apparently there's some sort of dark age family secret that nobody knows. It's believed someone years and years ago had a fling with a foreigner and had a child and that's why we're dark. In each generation of lots of children is a blonde with fair skin and light eyes: My great-grandma was fair-haired with light skin and married a really dark man (who must've been the offspring of the offspring of the offspring etc. of the foreign fling) and out of her eight surviving kids only Jennifer had blonde hair with light skin. My grandma had six kids with a 'normal' coloured man and only my auntie that moved to Cyprus has really curly blonde hair and light skin. Her hubby, Pantelis, and her have REALLY curly hair and their three kids have hair as strace as lace. My grandma has been divorced to 'the ode (<<< her village word for 'old') twit', 'the waste of space', 'the liar' and the 'a*sehole' that would be my granddad as she would commonly quote when sl*gging him off. Granddad always lies to the family by saying he goes to Rome when he doesn't and he doesn't tax his car so he will buy a newly-taxed car, use it in the other person's name and when the tax runs out he sells it and buys another and this continus all the time. I questioned him about why he changes his car every time I see him and he said 'oh I like a change'. Most of the family have nothing to do with grandma's sister, Jasmin, cuz she hits kids and made her son stutter out of fright and told about five different men that they were the father of her daughter just so she could extort money out of them. She slags off the family and has controversially returned to the same street as grandma!

OK I could carry on forever but I'll shut up now.

Leon.

Just the thought of selling my soul to the devil, drinking human/animal blood, and calling down evil spirits doesnt quite appeal to me. These kind of issues are not even bare laughing about, people that get involved in that kinda shit end up seriously fu**ed up.

Lets just stick to the main thread...and avoid satanic debates!!!!

Well, as one of the respondents has been pushing regulars (and although new I consider myself now a regular) to stand up and be counted I have decided to bore the pants off you with my CV.

At least this one is truthful not like some of my early job applications.....

I am English (passport says British I know...Lana), 57 (ouch) years young and married to Bee for the last 32 years. Doesn't time fly when you are enjoying yourself.

I have two sons, one married and living in Cyprus, whilst the eldest is married and lives near Heathrow airport. If you ever need a car trim or bumper repair he is the top man !!

I have three grandchildren, Zoe, Steffie and Ben......

I was born in Manchester and lived in the north until I left grammar school and the family moved to the smoke (London), well Orpington actually but I spent most of my time in the capital for the crack. (fun).

In the following years I (with jobs) lived in Scotland, Northern Ireland, back in London, Manchester again, Shropshire, Wiltshire and finally High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire.

I had always wanted to follow my father into sales but from school trained as a quantity surveyor. The most boring job imaginable...soon got out of that. From then on I was in sales in one capacity or another.

Most of my sales career was in the motor trade but in the bad times we tried various businesses of our own in , waste paper, moneylending (that was good) and a pub......what a disaster.

As the pub ran away with all our money (and not down our necks) I went taxi driving for two years to get us back on our feet......bloody good earner that....

I then spent a considerable time as a senior manager with a major retail motor group selling, Rover, Triumph, Austin, Land Rover, Jaguar and Rolls Royce.

A major fall out with them lead to us opening a windscreen replacement company which blossomed into other aspects related to the motor trade, tow bars, car alarms, sunroofs etc etc . This business was very successful but was a killer as far as family life was concerned. At least it allowed us to retire (aged 50) in 1997.

We both then decided to do, "what we wanted to do".

I spent several years in the Theatre Royal in Windsor as the business/sponsorship manager. The very best years of my life......
I also assisted friends in their own businesses on an ad hoc basis.

My wife made a name for herself as an international designer in the craft industry. Even now, she receives correspondence and invitations to create for various companies and individuals. Bugger all in the way of money but she thoroughly enjoys herself.

We had purchased an apartment in the Amathus area of Limassol in 1990 so I suppose it was an obvious choice when we decided to up and away from the UK in 2001.
I can honestly say it is probably the best move we have ever made.

As far as being bored is concerned I can never seeing that happening.

I have been involved with car rallying since 1968, (good old mini days) as a competitor, organiser, mechanic and general factotum. I suppose you could say I am rally mad.....its the truth.

I was lucky enough to work with a World Rally Championship team back in 2002 which took me to Finland, here in Cyprus, Argentina, Kenya, New Zealand and Australia. Unfortunately budget cuts precluded my involvement in 03/04 but this year I am again involved, but with a Japanese/Belgium team. A great way to see the world for free which this year includes, GB, Japan and Australia again. Next year will be very busy as they have found out I am licenced to drive an articulated truck. Therefore I am now involved in testing throughout the world as well.

I will be off the island for nearly 26 weeks next year.........

I also act as a sponsorship hunter for various teams/drivers across the globe.

I am an avid reader. J K Rowling, John Grisham, John Connelly, Stephen King, Aldus Huxley, Agatha Christie, Bill Bryson, Robert Ludlum and Wilbur Smith to name but a few.

Musically I am an illiterate. I am tone deaf (as anyone will tell you) so I tend to use music as background solace. I remember the words from the hit singles of the sixties but none of the new stuff. I like the quality performers such as Dido, Beautiful South, Annie Reader (Fairgroud Attraction), Annie Lennox and others and I do like to listen to them but most of the modern stuff I can well do without.......I do like Robbie Williams and Oasis though.

I have never been a fan of classical but my mate plays in the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and he has turned me a little. He leads the 2nd violins and I just wish he would smile every now and then whilst playing. He is good fun and by text told me to watch him playing at the Proms recently and the point at which he would give me a smile.......it worked the camera was right on him and he was beaming. He is also coming to live here on the island of love so if any one wants violin lessons to orchestral standard....give me a nudge.....

If I was to mention one unfullfilled aim, it is to educate Brits, many of whom still do not listen, as to the many pitfalls of life here in Cyprus, especially when it comes to property renting or purchase.

I could cry at the times people have not listened (not just to me but others) and found themselves thousands of pounds out of pocket.

But, all that said, this is a great place to live, good food, the weather, the people, etc etc.

Sorry UK but I will not be returning in the near future.......

thats me....off for a good old fashioned English cup of tea.

Howard

I'm a 34 year old British Born GC, being raised in Haringey, North London. Father was a wood machinist and mother a clothes machinist. That sewing machine of hers....I always hated. The sound it made always scared me as a child. Back in school, I didn't do very well. I could pick things up, but then within hours, I'd forget and be back where I first started. I never did have and tests for Dyslexia, but I am convinced that I may have it.

Back in England, I was a van courier working for Fedex, picking up and delivering parcels. I was very good at what I done. My customers liked me, always requesting me to collect their parcels. I guess its because I never treated them like customers, but instead as friends, giving them my mobile number in case they have any queries or problems, to call me rather than the call centre and be put on hold for hours! I have to admit, I enjoyed that job.

I have 2 sisters, both married both have 3 kids, which gets very expensive at Christmas :D One of my sisters moved to Cyprus with her husband and kids 6 years ago. I made a point of coming every year, sometimes twice a year(finances permitting) to see her. I always stayed at the same hotel, Princess in Larnaca. About a year ago, my other sister mentioned tha she would also be coming to Cyprus to live, and asked if I'd come over. I decided to give it a try, at least giving it a year to see if I like it. Been living here for a year now and have had no regrets in moving over. I still visit the Princess Hotel as I have made friends with alot of the staff there.

I am yet to do my National Service, been putting it off. I have to be honest and say that I don't want to do it, and I am actively looking for a way to get out of doing it. I don't like violence, and I especially don't like guns, so getting trained to use one to shoot fellow human beings turns my stomach. I guess given a choice, I'd rather be put into prison than get trained to kill.

At the moment, I am a Fibreoptic Technician for a cablecompany in Limassol which will provide Cable TV, Internet and Telephone services. It is very heavy work, especially in this heat, but at the end of the day, it pays for my bread and butter.
