Cypriot sailor Pavlos Kontides is again at the top of world ranking in Men’s Laser, after the announcement of his updated ranking on March 23, 2020. The Olympic medalist tops world ranking for the second time in his career.

According to an announcement, Kontides reached the top in October 2017 and hold onto this position until April 2018.

During the last 12 months, Kontides secured a gold and a silver medal at Enoshima and Genova World Cups, respectively and came fourth at the European Championships in Porto. He has a total of 941 points. He is followed by Jesper Stalheim from Sweden and Tonci Stipanovic from Croatia, with 932 and 905 points respectively.

Cypriot sailor Pavlos Kontides won Open Croatia Championship laser category on Friday.

This was Cyprus` Olympic medalist first race following the pandemic. Athletes from Croatia, Hungary, Switzerland, Slovakia, Serbia and Austria participated in the Championship. A total of six races were held in the Laser class, with Pavlos Kontides winning the three and the Reggata, followed by Filip Jurisic and Jonatan Vadnai.

The Cyprus sailor and also world champion in the Laser class, will train in Croatia the rest of the summer ahead of sailing games in Germany in September and the European Championship in Athens in October.

So sorry for Cyprus. Oh well. Keep on tryting for next time.

The Australian dude had the Gold won before the last race on points. All he had to do was finish, even last.

If I was him, I would have hung back in the field right at the back, just staying out of trouble and finish last. Well he started off last, then he picked everyone off one by one to end up finishing second. And he was havng a crack at first which I thought he didn't have to do at all.

Brave move considering the gold was in the bag already. :?

If something happened to his boat meaning he couldn't finish the race, he would have lost the Gold medal.
