Crossing points into north Cyprus

Postby Moonage Daydream » Mon Aug 08, 2005 12:27 am

I'm going to Limassol in a few weeks, and want to know where the crossings into the North are. Last year when in Cyprus I drove through Agios Demetrios and visited Kyrenia for a day. Another day I went to north Nicosia via the Ledra crossing. Which other crossings are now open? Can someone give me a full list of crossings suitable for a car, and let me know which ones have the least queues?

By the way I assume if you have a hire car, you still buy your insurance supplement for the north at the checkpoint?

You can pass from nicosia(kermıa), famagusta and pile.

You need buy insurance only ın kermia I think. You have to buy an insurance.

I didn't know there was a crossing at Famagusta... where is it?

Moonage, detailer also mentioned Pile, on road signs in Cyprus, this is shown as Pyla and is just off the m/way to Protoras and Agia Napa. I don't think this is an official crossing point though, so whether you'll get insurance there I'm not sure. Still, from many accounts the insurance doesn't really cover you for much should you have an accident.

Crossing Points (cont).

Postby Moonage Daydream » Wed Aug 10, 2005 9:18 pm

Thanks to those who replied.
I had read that an additional crossing at Kato Pyrgos had been opened, but that's not much use to me as I'm staying at Limassol.
The Pyla crossing could be useful, but whjere is the Famagusta one?
Is it near Derynia?

yes it is, but blame me, I forgot the name of the village. I used that crossing last year and it was somewhere around these villages there... :?:
I think it was very close to Agyios Nicolaos.

Yes it is near derynia I think. You pass through British base actually not GC police. We call the point "2.5 miles". It is on the from famagusta to larnaca.

Pyla is an official one as well. (According to GC admin., none of them is official anyway.)
