Turkey joining the EU? Over my dead dog's body.

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

At present, there is one Professor, acquaintance, who is making a conscientious objection by withdrawing from a Conference due to be held there, to which he was invited.

A second one, I know, is also thinking of withdrawing. Let's hope it snowballs. :D

In order to withdraw, you have first to accept. Do you mean they are declining to accept?

They are both long-standing, invited members of the regular core-group, and obliged to attend these Conferences which are held annually, globally. The next, due to be held in Turkey, is the one they are withdrawing, in advance, from attendance/attending.

This does sound very improbable. I'm a long serving university academic involved in lots of international academic networks and conferences and I've never heard of anything like this, of an academic being obliged to attend a conference. It is a matter of free choice every time. Perhaps you could tell us which conference you think they're being obliged to attend ? I could probably advise.

That's probably because you teach at an illegal, racist university in the occupied part of Cyprus, and external invitations would be limited.

Why does Oracle always attack and assume the worst of everyone. This is a psychopathological condition.

Perhaps she is "always attacked" herself, by any passers through!

Off you go, CopperL. You've offloaded your own attack ...

I didn't attack you. I asked a question about why you always attack and assume the worst. A question is not an attack, it is a question. Can't you tell the difference ?

On another thread Gasman posted an article on snakes and you took this to be an attack on you and that it was racist. It was an article about the destruction of snake habitats not about you Oracle. Here's a thread on Jeremy Clarkson's view on Turkey's EU membership and you turn posters' comments as attacks on you. That strikes me as signalling some kind of personality disorder, and I simply asked a question as to whether you were self-aware of this behaviour pattern.

I will indeed say no more.

Where's the question mark in your statement? It wasn't a question -- you made a statement! Then you proceeded to qualify your statement with a diagnosis of a condition. You didn't ask a question. You attacked me. And now you lie!

As for your other concerns about any supposed attacks by me, they are about as accurate as your present claims.

I will indeed say no more.

You've said that before!

At least in Turkey they have a much more civilised way of disposing with it.

Yes, they ship loads of it down to turdland... The occupied public toilet in the north.

Yes and you Brits love it here

On the subject of 'conditions', psychologists say that talking about yourself in the third person is a sign of narcissism, megalomania and self-importance. I think they got that one right!

And apparently:

If for any reason you ever talk about yourself in the third person, you're teetering on the edge of an abyss. There's no excuse for it. I don't care if you're the CEO or the hot-shottest marketing hot shot the world has ever seen. It's crass and ill-bred to use your own name when referring to yourself.

The quote above is not from a psychologist but another hotshot...
