Football in Limassol

Postby Moonage Daydream » Fri Aug 12, 2005 2:12 am

I see there are 3 First Division Teams in Limassol, AEL, Apppollon, and Aris. I'm going there in October and would like to see a few games.
Where do they play? Can you just turn up and pay at the gate?
What is the background to the different clubs, do they represent different parts of the city or different political traditions?

Aris is playing in the second division this year.

Limassol teams play at Tsirio stadium, you can buy tickets at the gates.

What is the background to the different clubs, do they represent different parts of the city or different political traditions?

AEL and Aris are mostly center left and Appolonas is center right.

MY FRIEND I AM FROM LIMASSOL.

PIRATIS IS WRONG.AEL DOESNT HAVE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT POLITICS AND AEL ITS PROUD FOR THAT.

ALSO ARIS WAS BORN FROM PEAPLE WHO SUPPORT THE RIGHT POLITICALLY,BUT NOW CAUSE IT IS A SMALL CLUB NOONES CARE ABOUT THEM.

APOLLONAS KNOWN AS CUSTOMERS OR ELEPHANTS :D IS TOTALY SUPPORT
THE RIGHT POLITICALLY.

Well, it is true that AEL is much much less politicized than some other teams like APOEL, Omonia, Appolon etc. However Cypriot football in general is politicized, and although ael has some right wing supporters and even leading personalities I think it is not wrong to say that AEL is in general more left when compared with teams like Apoel or Appolon. (but nowhere as left as Omonia or Nea Salamina)

I don't think Akis Ellinas is leftist. Solomonides, Lanitis and many other well known Aelistes are not leftists. Some people think that AEL is left because it is not right like Appolon is.

Limassol Football teams

Which team gets the most fans at their games AEL or Appolon?
Some have said Aris support has declibed, were they always the smallest club, or has support dropped since they are not in the top league?

ael supporters is the best in cyprus.i am not telling that cause i am a supporter of ael but because its the true.
and when i said the best i dont mean the most.
ael was ralegeted to the second divission at the year 1996 and believe it or not when they count how much tickets did all teams cut ael came forth. although other teams was in the first divission.the first was omonia the second apoel the third anorthosis and the forth ael.that means tha in every game in the second divission ael have about 3000 supporters and that a big deal in cyprus.
ael fans havent celebrate since 1989 and they was dissapointed of relegation but with their love and support ael is up their again.

am gonna ask all cypriots in here if their teams and i mean apoel omonoia apollon anorthosis relegated or have to celebrate more than 15 years would they still love their team and get a seasson ticket??

ael fans prove that they are the best and that they love their team more than everyone in the basketball too.

the real answer to your question is tha ael and apollonas take about the same nomber of fans.but the thing is that ael have about 2500-3000 standartn in every match.
apollonas is not like that.in a bad season they take about 200-300 and they have the 1st worst record. 16 fans in one match.
the second worst record is 25 fans and the medal going to apoel.

thats what i am telling u.when some big clups not going well the supporters show how much they love their teams.as apoel and apollonas.

as i said ael when was at the second divission we have an average of 3000
