I want to buy a HTC Desire HD - where's the best place to get one? Are the prices still much higher here than everywhere else? Will any shops have them at a good price, or do most people get them online from abroad?

Are you sure HTCs are such a good idea?

1. The software downloads section of their website is too slow and/or crashes altogether.

2. Last year’s models have no Windows 7 support and it doesn’t look like they’re getting any.

3. Some of their models are geared for the US market and are thus called “North America” or “South America” etc! They’re probably bundled with US-only services.

If you’re in Europe have a rethink…

I know a couple of people who have new HTC phones, no complaints. I have used the desire hd a few times, it's nice.
Also, itt has Android OS
I might get someone to send one over from the uk to be sure eit'snot full of us-only services.

Any alternative suggestions?

All new phones “look nice” but that’s not the only deciding factor when buying. The most important aspect is TECHNICAL SUPPORT where HTC only scores about a 2/5.

You should start asking them the RIGHT questions like…

Have they tried to upgrade firmware and/or add software to see what it’s like?

Have they tried synchronizing in both XP and W7?

And so forth…

Any alternative suggestions?

Too many… Nokia, Samsung, Motorola, Sharp, Garmin, iPhone, Sony Eric, LG, Blackberry.

All the above are currently in business and they’ve all got one or two hot phones to compete.

Its just that I've never heard of HTC.
So other than looks, can't say much about specs.

They’ve sold quite a few units here in Cyprus the last year or two, but they’re all left high and dry with no W7 support!

I have the bad job of telling customers they can no longer use them after a Windows 7 upgrade… and that’s why you’ll see high school kids using them!

The parent tosses it from the office!

At the moment Nokia, Blackberry, and iphone have the best support but this of course changes with time.

Another factor is… can it see wireless devices in the vicinity?

Can you walk into an office and send a document to the networked printer wirelessly?

Most cannot, and neither can the iphone!

My opinion: Get a mini laptop instead, because they have more power than all these dumb phones put together!
