And the 32GB 3G model I want will still be nearly 200 euro cheaper in the USA ..... Just happens that the wife will be in Vegas soon.

I used to be an apple hater but in the last 6 months -

Ipod touch 8gb and 32gb
Ipad 16gb 3G x 2 ( 1 since sold)
Macbook Air
Iphone4

about the only thing my now , fundamentally, redundant acer netbook, laptop and central media server get used for are -

Anything with heavy flash content ( a real apple annoyance)
Bittorents
Media streaming to the TV
The odd MS project document

oh and pokerstars

Overall I'd say 90% of the needs of an average user are better handled by an ipad than a large, heavy(in comparison), battery hogging, slow starting PC with , admittedly, more (but superfluos for most people) processor power

Am in Paphos an am not getting it for 1 euro more man.

3g 32gb is what i got, for 699! which is what sells in Europe!

I will dissapoint you but it was sold out in the USA during the 1st day!!! She wont be able to get one there easily since there is 3-4 weeks waiting time in the USA!!!! if she looks around she will be apple to get it, doupt if the jumps directly in an apple store and find it in stock!

its not 200 euro less in the USofA! if you consider the VAT then the difference is much less. you just bring it illegally if you travel without declaring it at the customs when you arrive to save on VAT and customs clearing charges!

plus depending on the state you buy it in the USA you will pay at least 4% extra state tax when you pay it!

I disagree. iPad could compare favorably with a laptop for some things like portability and battery life, and it is good for some basic tasks, but for most other things a laptop is better. And if you are home or office a desktop PC is far better. Not only more power, but you can have a 24"+ screen, full keyboard, way more storage, you can have it on at all times which means no need to wait for it to start, there is no battery to run out etc. If you can replace a desktop with an iPad that means you are not even an average computer user.

Sotos even at home i stopped using my laptop! the iPad will do perfectly for browsing the web, participating in forums, checking out facebook, chatting via an IM client with a buddy abroad, reading e-books, magazines etc!

at home i use the laptop when i need to do some programming. i use my laptop for nothing else! the rest iPad can do much better!

a desktop PC with a 24"+ screen will make you stuck in a bedromm or a home office area!

The iPad will allow you to sit on the veranda or your couch and read the silly posts GR is writting about iPad and Apple while drinking your glass of wine!

now if i am stuk in front of the pc at work then i wont get the ipad out, will browse the web on the pc!

iPad is good for reading books and magazines. It is good with certain kind of apps also. It is OK for reading other web content although very often you have to keep zooming in and out. But for most things I prefer to look at my 24" screen rather than a tablet screen which is not even 10". And when it comes to content creation there is really no contest. I can type at least 3 times faster on a full keyboard than on the ipad and I can use any kind of program I want without limitations and with real multi-tasking.

But I guess this also depends on the person. I have a nice office and a nice home office with a good computer with a large screen. I would use an ipad only in rare occasions, like reading a magazine while in bed or checking the TV program while sitting in the living room. But if somebody has some crappy computer in the corner of his bedroom, then I can see how using the ipad could be more pleasing more often.

:) no need to zoom in and out in ANY web page, everything fits nicely, we are not talking about the iphone here! text on the iPad if same font size or a tad larger than a newspaper!

Content creation is easier on a PC Laptop with a keyboard, but there are are cases that you can get creative to write something while out in the veranda just watching the sunset on the iPad! I am just beginning to explore content creation on the iPad and so far i haven't tried a wireless keyboard with it. once i do i'll let you know how good it is!

its not a matter of a nice office or a large screen, you can sit on the roof of your house if you like and surf the internet on an iPad, you can not do that on with your desktop PC! ok that is a silly example, but there are many places iPad is easier to use. both from a desktop and a laptop.

at my house i have much more powerful PC ( Mac actually :) ) connected to my 42'' TV and and even more powerful in my home office with a 22'' monitor, but i keep using these less and less while i am keep using the iPad much more with its 10'' screen.

hell i can eat breakfast in the kitchen and read some news on the iternet using the iPad, feels so much more natural that begin stuck in front of a desktop computer or a laptop plugged in the wall.

Give them a call ask for kyriacos, he might be able to get one for you this week.

As i understand they are limited stocks available this week and more stock coming next week or the week after. It all depends on how many pieces the reseller here in Cyprus got from official distributor in Greece.

I think at the moment they are serving pre orders, you will be albe to get it anywhere! at them moment they only have only a pew pieces to serve part of thier pre orders

BTW that is the suggested retail price, from the reseller, now if a shop will sell them for more then they are simply stealing a little bit more money from you.

...but at €599 rather than €479.

I think you’ll find that those who have a high esteem for these overpriced mini rectangles, are very lightweight computer users anyway so they wouldn’t have a clue about power and what one can do with a full blown computer.

That’s why we’re getting so much bollocks posted here!
