Pregnant in Cyprus

Postby Olga » Tue Aug 16, 2005 9:40 pm

Hello everybody!

I am new in this forum and in Cyprus.
Maybe you can give me some information that I need.
I am pregnant and for certain reasons I will have to stay here for long time.
It means that I will have to deliver my baby here.
And I think you can understand how I am worrying about this.
I know nothing about how it is in Cyprus.
Should I go to the state hospital? Does it give any support and help for those like I am? I am a foreigner, I stay legally here and have a pink slip.
How much it costs to deliver a baby in Cyprus?
Can government help me? If yes, where should I apply and what documents to prepare?

Thank you for any information!

A friend of mine gave birth a few days ago in a private clinic in nicosia,it cost about a thousand pounds(including staying in the clinic for 3 days).
i think the state hospital in limassol is not bad for giving birth..it should be ok....and i think it should be free,i am not sure though....

Olga,

As yoiu say, you are here on a pink slip, you will not be entitled to care through the General Hospital (Cyprus State), except in an emergency situation.

Pre natal will be chargeable and costs almost the same as in the Private sector.

As the last poster says, it will be about C£1000 plus various costs post birth. Injections etc etc.

My son and his wife had a baby earlier this year and they used the "Limassol Clinic" at the Agia Fyla roundabout on the highway, very modern and excellent care.

Private insurance does not cover pregnancy.

Good luck, hope the term goes well.

Thank you for your response and your help!!!
I believe this information will be very useful for me.
I am just a few months here, so many things are still new for me plus the pregnancy as a totally new feeling! That’s why I am confused.
Thank you once again!

Does the “Limassol Clinic” monitor the whole period of pregnancy or will I have to find some other medical clinic?
Is 1000 Cyprus pounds for natural delivery or for delivery through the operation also?

Also I heard that insurance covers part of pregnancy. Is it not true? Or maybe there are different kinds of insurance?

hello Olga,

My belief is that pregnancy is not covered at all by insurance.

If you wish to find out exactly I have sent youa contact number for a very good gynacologist who uses the Limassol clinic. You can then ring him and he will tell you exactly the costs and what you need to do, and of course what you get.

Hi Olga,

First of all welcome to the forum

Second of all dont be worried about giving birth here in Cyprus, with a good doctor by your side it is a safe and wonderful experience.

I gave birth to my second child nearly 10 months ago at a private clinic in Limassol, I have the prices here in front of me and from day one until I gave birth plus three days in the 5 star suite it cost me £ 1035.00 plus two scans which were £35-£40 each.
Now, I have BUPA insurance which covers most of the cost and I can confirm that you have to be with them for 10 months before they will pay you maternity (I think its like that with most of the insurance companies).

With my first pregnancy (again at a private clinic with the same doctor) I was going to the general hospital for antenatal classes which were free of charge (every Wednesday I think!!). These are in Greek though so might not be of any help to you!!
As for having the baby there you can go in the mornings and ask if you are intitled to a hospital card, this will give you minimal expenses and there care in the pregnancy department is very good.

Other then that you can PM me and I can give you my doctors number who is fantastic and fluent in English (lived, studied and worked in the USA for years).

Hope this helps!!

Good luck with everything..................

Hello Marina2005!

Thank you very very much!!! This information is very useful for me.
I will just visit my insurance company to make clear this issue with pregnancy.
And if it’s not a big trouble for you can you send me a PM with the number and name of your doctor? I will be very grateful!!
