Just my 2 cents worth. Any audio system is as good as the speakers you have.

You would be better placed to have decent more expensive speakers and slightly lesser quality gear.

I don't see the point is forking out a small fortune for top quality amps systems wires only to have the main transducer (speaker) at an inferior level.

Cheers and good luck

Charalambo, should i ever need a system file, I know where to come.

Cheers

Any system is only as good as the weakest link...

Fantastic speakers and poor amp is no better than fantastic amp and poor speakers...

The key thing is to spend your budget wisely and on improvements that you can see or hear... If you can't tell the difference between a €500 component and a €5,000 component or the difference is not noticeable in your listening environment then you've just saved yourself €4,500 to spend on software...

I remember a salesman trying to sell me a Linn Sondek with a SME Series III arm. Playing the same disc I couldn't tell the difference (in a listening room) between it and the Systemdek that I bought - no matter how much 'better' he said it was...

Try the hardware out where you will be using it if at all possible.

Charalambos, I am in the design of the room phase now. It is too early to decide about specific equipment now, but when the time comes I will give you a call if you are still available.

Any system is only as good as the weakest link...

I agree. This is why I want something that is balanced. I personally care more about video than sound. Right now I am listening to music through some $100 2.1 PC speakers, and it is almost adequate. So for my needs I really don't need to spend many 1000s for audio equipment. I just want to know that everything is installed correctly so it will sound nice to my ears without any distortions, vibrations etc.

Will you be using a projector?

If so, controlling the light is the key element... any reflections from the room dramatically reduce contrast...

I painted my entire cinema (walls, ceiling, radiator, air con, sockets, cables) Midnight Blue (which is almost black) and the improvement in picture quality from the same HD projector was staggering...

ok if your designing then you need to pay attention to a couple of things

1. piping for the wires. Always install 2 more electrician plastic pipes from what you plan to install for future use to each component
2. for hdmi you need the bigger tube, not the 15mm one. dont forget that
3. try and separate where possible the audio and the video cables
4. you need to decide on the projector placement, as it differs from type to type.
5. make sure you get 2 dedicated sources of electricity directly from your panel with their own fuse. more is always better
6. think where your speakers will be places and run plastic tubes towards them. no need for the wiring to be seen
7. what is the room size?

Grump, the light in the room can be totally blocked and i will paint it quite dark. Charalambos, i am planning for those things that you said. Is there aproblem if video and audio wires are run from the same pipe? When you say audio cable you mean speaker wire? Because for connecting components i will just use hdmi.
