Houses in old Limassol Town

Postby sneezing7 » Wed Aug 24, 2005 2:12 pm

So my parents are here on Holiday and they seem to love the place. Dad is Greek and has never been to Cyprus before, and Mum is an Australian born Cypriot who has not been here for 30 years. Aparently Cyprus has changed massively since her last visit.

Anyhow, last night they were telling me about a conversation they had with a guy in a periptero. They were asking him about all the abandoned houses in Limassol town center, and he informed them that the govt is willing to pay 75% of the total cost of renovations required if you decided to move into one one the houses.

Anyone know if there is any truth in this?

Hi Manni

I do not have first hand experience but I am told by many people that in reality, Government Grants are rarely more than 30% and because of the Conditions laid down before you are entitled to them, the cost of the build is much more expensive.

So while they are fine in theory, in practice they are more problematical. I don't know the area but some of them may be TC property, in which case you (your Father) will not ever be able to 'own' them.

But an option worth exploring; it will be interesting to hear how they get on.

Thanks Lana,

I kind of guessed that was the reality of the situation. Still, I guess it is interesting to know that the govt is willing to give you some sort of grant.

There is a house near my apartment which has just finished being restored. I got to admit it lookins amazing! I will try and take a pic of it soon and post it up
