Markets for fresh fruit, veg, herbs and meats in Larnaca

Postby Pomogranite » Fri Aug 26, 2005 2:56 pm

Hi

Can anyone help me here?

I need info on the above. Are there any good, recommended market place(s) in Larnaca for foodstuffs of this nature?
If so, when is best to go, and are they quite affordable?

will be grateful for any pointers

all the best[/b]

BY FAR I recomend "prinos" opposite Chris Cash and Carry It has a huge selection of veg, fruit and even herb and spices, you will fall in love with it, probably the most organized and professional fruit market in Cyprus.

In Ermou street, where the old fruit market used to be (which is now a parking lot) you will find a sunday market where many traders take advantage of the huge area offered by the parking to set up small stands and offer fruit and veg at discount prices. My sister went there a few times and loved it. You should give it a try on sunday morning. I'm not sure if it's all year round or just in the winter time (when my sister went).

There is of course the wholsale market outside larnaka but I don't know if they would allow any retail trade there? Can someone confirm this?

Agree about Prinos. The fruit there is always fresh with older stock being sold outside at £1 for a carrierbag full. Thats where I normally go to do my fruit shopping!

Agreed: excellent shop, wide variety of indigenous and imported (even exotic) goods, stuff always fresh (high turnover) and prices are reasonable, although not bottom-of-the-range. Was there only this morning! (They have Cyprus mangoes just now, price OK, half the price of Israeli mangoes)
