What to visit what is not :)

Postby lyche » Tue Jun 28, 2011 11:09 am

This will be second year on Cyprus and I want to help me!
Last year I was to MacKenzie Beach, Phinikoudes Beach, Protaras, afrodita rock, Coral bay Paphos, some beachis in Limassol, and this summer I want to see next
Makronissos Beach ,Konnos Beach ( see Cave Greko) ,Pissouri Beach ,Potami Beach ,Nissia Loumbardi Beach ,Louma Beach ,Vrisi Beach and some villages and churchis on Troodos Mountains.
Tell me if we plan this year is good and can recommend a new and more beautiful place and the most beautiful village on the Troodos Mountains!

Try getting on to the Akamas up to the turtle beach at Lara Bay... very pretty and quietish. May need a 4x4 to do it, but been up there with a saloon. Village in the Troodos... Kakopetria.

No def not ... no sun beds... no umbrellas... no music... just towels on the beach and sand and sand and sand ... and sea.

There's a restaurant overlooking the beach, good place for lunch, say hello to the owners and you can park in their car-park and use their showers.

Is it possible to visit this in just one day: Pano Lefkara-Troodos the top-Kakopeteria (agioas Nikolastis Stegis)-Pedoulas(Kykkos monastery)-Foini-Omodhos?
I watched on google maps and I think that is possible!
And tell me is it good rout or not, i want to see unique villages, with beautiful monastery, great architeture......etc.

Possible but not suggested ;) If you try to see too many things at once you will not really enjoy any of them. Platres is another nice village. Just go to Troodos and visit Platres and Kakopetria and have another stop or two in that same route. Will you stay in a single hotel for your whole stay in Cyprus? If you want to see several places then it would be better to stay in 2-3 different locations.

I would say seems like a good route except for Pano Lefkara which is a bit off the route and is between Larnaca and Limassol. Better to focus on the mountain route, include Platres on your way to Troodos. Prodhromos also is worth a visit with the old abandoned stone Beregaria hotel. ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xw8Qsq8D ... re=related ) Do Lefkara on another day and maybe check out Maroni since it's just down the road with lots of old restored village houses. You could also fit in Stavrovouni (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fb7BTuLuVEg) in that trek. A couple beaches not on your list in Limassol are Ladies Mile, Ayios Georgios (There's a small monestary there too), and Govenor's Beach. All beaches where the locals go and worth a visit. The ancient ruins of Curium are nice and you could also hit the beach there although it's does have a bit of problem lately with unknown floaters reportedly being turtle poo! If you get to Akamas be sure to check out Avgas Gorge. ( http://www.panoramio.com/photo/1723952 ) Enjoy.......

There Is a restaurant / cafe and a hotel at the Troodos Square which is near the top. At the very top are some military installations which you can not access and the ski slopes. There is a cafe where the ski slopes are but I've never been there in the summer ... I don't know if they work when there is no snow.... maybe on Sundays.
