Turkey’s EU Minister Egemen Bağış causes a stir with his remarks accusing Gezi protesters for any future loss on the journey to host the Olympics in 2020

One of the government’s most opinionated figures, EU Minister Egemen Bağış, has again raised eyebrows while attending a wrestling event in Istanbul’s Sancaktepe, arguing that Gezi protesters would be responsible if the country lost the race to host the 2020 Olympics...

Bağış’s remarks, which accused the protesters of “applying twice to drop Istanbul’s candidacy,” caused a stir hours later the minister voiced them at an annual wrestling tournament on Aug. 18, a branch of Turkish sports that has recently been riddled with doping claims.

Bagis the Clown is complaining that the announcement of Turkey's EU non-progress report coincides with the day he has to slaughter a goat:

Turkey's EU minister slams progress report's release day

EU Minister Egemen Bağış slammed Oct.13 the European Commission’s choice of date for the release of the Progress Report on Turkey.

The bloc is set to release the report on Oct. 16, coinciding with the second day of the Eid al-Adha (Kurban Bayramı).

“We said to the EU: Eid al-Adha is like Christmas so don’t release it that day. But they don’t listen. No comments until the end of Bayram,” Bağış wrote in his Twitter account.

I'm surprised its just a goat getting slaughtered and not journalists, gezi protestors or gcs.

After all they'll slaughter just anything, including their own mothers :)

Oh no! Is the clown about to fall on his face....

The sons of three Cabinet ministers, Economy Minister Zafer Çağlayan, Environment and Urbanization Minister Erdoğan Bayraktar and Interior Minister Muammer Güler, are still under interrogation by prosecutors in the Istanbul police headquarters. So is Süleyman Aslan, the general manager of the state-run Halkbank, and there are reports that police found $4.5 million in cash in shoe boxes in his house in Ankara. That money is allegedly a bribe to transfer money from the gold trade of Iranian-Azeri businessman Reza Zarrab to Iran, in cooperation with Economy Minister Çağlayan. In order to provide short-cut Turkish citizenship to Zarrab (which he received, adopting the name Rıza Sarraf) the prosecutors think the names of Interior Minister Güler and Turkey’s EU Minister Egenem Bağış were involved in the process.

Prosecutors could only write a letter to Parliament for the questioning or trial of ministers, owing to their parliamentary immunity, which goes far beyond the limits of freedom of speech.

Deputy Prime Minister Bülent Arınç said in a press conference on Dec. 18 that it was up to Erdoğan to dismiss the ministers involved or ask for their resignation, or the ministers could even themselves consider resigning.

Zaman also reporting on the start of a cover-up with the removal of investigators...

"...Wednesday witnessed a series of unexpected developments which led to concerns that a shady plot has been put into effect to cover up a major investigation into claims of corruption and bribery as 29 senior police officials from the İstanbul and Ankara Police Department, who had been ordered by the prosecutor's office to conduct the investigation, were removed from their posts and two new prosecutors were appointed to the same investigation. ..."

... and this is what Zaman has to say about BagisGate ...

"... 15:53 - Turkish Minister Bağış on graft probe: I'm good

EU Affairs Minister Egemen Bağış has said he has no personal worries regarding the graft probe conducted by İstanbul police department on Tuesday resulting in detention of many prominent people in the country, saying, “I'm good.”

Bağış arrived at around noon at the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) headquarters, where in reply to reporters' questions he said he was “good,” denying the accusations against him while saying so.

Bağış is accused of taking bribes from Iranian businessman Reza Zerrab as he helped Zerrab tackle bureaucratic hurdles while making huge sums of illegal transfers from Iran.... "
