Anybody tried the 3G service from Areeba? How fast is it? I think now it is free. Anybody knows how much they will charge for unlimited use of 3G?

3G is a different kind of technology. It is a very fast way to transmit data with the GSM network. It has nothing to do with soeasy. Cyta does not support 3G yet

sotos do you know if 3g will enable users to have a browser (like internet explorer) and be able to browse the net from a 3G device? I don't mind if i can't access complicated sites like pogo.com (flash games) but i do want to be able to access gmail, hotmail, ebay etc etc?

Andy, 3G is not necessary to be able to browse the web with a browser. You can do it with normal GSM/GPRS. It depends only on the model of your handset, is it capable of running normal (not wap) browser (like SonyEricsson P910i or some i-Mate or generally any phone with Symbian or Windows Mobile OS, there are some with Linux also).

thanks core...

it's funny how wap was such a failure... Did the telephone companies think that they could create a second internet or something? What a joke....

So in order to access the internet with a decent speed i will need a 3G connection and a 3G mobile with a normal browser.

My next question is this: Many companies are trying to sell 3G like it's the broadband equivalent to mobile phones... We know that broadband is not charged per minute or per MB (although some cheap providers abroad have GB restrictions). Will 3G allow me to have always-on, fast and unlimited internet like I have on my pc? Areeba better not charge per kiloByte like they do with GPRS or i forsee 3G being as common as hot soup on a hot mid-summers day.

A friend of mine is using Areeba 3G with Nokia 6630 + laptop computer. As he says the speed is quite good and going up to around 400kbps (almost half of the speed of 1mbps adsl). But they have a "fair use policy" theoretically limiting you to 1Gb traffic per month.
And 3G is free until the end of September or October. (though he is still paying 29 pounds per month for unlimited GPRS as he subscribed before).

I don't find it practical to surf the web from a mobile. The problem is not the speed, the problem is that the screen is too small for these kind of things.

3G is simply something faster than GPRS. Areeba will have a 3G device that can be inserted in a slot in a notebook computer and provide it with wireless "semi-broadband" speed anywhere that there is 3G coverage without the need of a mobile phone.

Areeba will have an unlimited 3G package, that will obviously be more expensive than the unlimited GPRS one. If unlimited 3G is around 80 pounds it can be a good choice for those that can not get i-choice but they live inside the 3G range.
