For decades Turkey has threatened Greece with much the same over an extension to an EEZ in the Aegean. (

You have got it a bit wrong. The problem in the Aegean is not with the EEZ but with the CONTINENTAL SHELF (= depth of 200 meters outside the territorial waters). Unfortunately, under relevant provisions of the international law, it is not clear if the islands which belong to a country have their own continental shelf, or if the latter should be measured from the mainland (as Turkey claims).
On the contrary, regulations about the EEZ stipulate clearly that islands which have an economic activity on them (they are inhabited etc), have their own EEZ. That is why the EEZ of Greece connects to the EEZ of Cyprus if Kastellorizo is counted in.

You are nothing but an idiot.

The thread should read, "Cyprus signals the unblocking of Turkeys EU energy chapter"

... If Turkey signs the UN convention of the sea.

As shown in the map, if Turkey signs the convention it will be like blocking itself from nearly the whole of the East Med., with the exception of comparatively small areas North and North-West of of Cyprus and East of Kastellorizo, while the CY EEZ will join the Greek EEZ. Therefore, Turkey will never sign the convention and this is the reason why it has not signed yet. Any idiot can see that, surely.

Turkey will never sign the convention ......[/quote]

To complete my previous post:

By not signing the convention Turkey can dispute and reject the fact that Kastellorizo has an EEZ and thus Turkey claims that its own EEZ extends west of Cyprus down to the Egyptian one, passing east of Crete.
