LCD's and Plasma Screens In Cyprus

Postby BigDutch » Thu Sep 08, 2005 8:40 pm

I posted this on an "ex-pat" forum but thought that some of you "local" people might be able to help as well ?

Dear all,

I`m looking to get a 17" PC LCD and a 42" Plasma once we have moved over. Whilst i appreciate i could buy in the UK and then bring over, i'd really like to get a heads up on what is already available from anyone that has already looked or just notices these things.

Anyone got any "good" shops that they have used a couple of times so i can make some enquiries with them from the uk ?

Cheers if you can help.

Cheers

I was looking for a 42" Plasma some time ago. I went to almost all Limassol stores and in some stores in Nicosia.

In Cyprus you will not find the range of brands and models that you can find in the UK.

It will be much cheaper to buy in the UK and then ship it here.

The best price/performance 42" Plasma sold in Cyprus is the Sony KEP42M for around 1150 Cy pounds.

There are some cheaper ones (AOC etc) but in my opinion the Sony is much better than those.

Of course the best ones are the Panasonic and Pioneer, but then we are talking for 1500+ pounds (i think the Pioneer is over 2000)

Personally in the end I decided to go with a projector. 92" high definition image for less money!

By the way, if in the end you decide to buy from the UK this is a useful link:

There they will help you decide which model to buy and where you can find the best deal.

Technology goods are more expensive in Cyprus – partly because shops don’t really use the Internet so you can’t readily compare prices and there isn’t the aggressive discounting that you ‘benefit’ from in the UK.

However, (in my experience anyway) shops in Cyprus offer an exceptional level of service compared to shopping in the UK – the assistants always seem to know the answers to your questions and stock is readily available.

Personally I’ve bought a digital camera and projector in the UK because they were so much cheaper than in Cyprus but I bought my TV’s from a Sony shop in Pafos – I figured I’d be really stuck if they went wrong and I couldn’t get them serviced here.
