Occupy The Buffer Zone

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Occupy The Buffer Zone

Postby bill cobbett » Fri Nov 18, 2011 11:22 pm

A weekly occupation of the buffer zone at the top end of Ledra Street, Nicosia has been taking place. Limited to Saturday nights since October, though there is a promise of a plan for an overnight camp-out this weekend.

For those who ain't familiar with this group, here is their FB "description" ...

"Old ladies shouted with us in the street with clenched fists "one Cyprus", indignant we called "I want to live in the buffer zone" and simply we showed "we want to be together".
We will return to the buffer zone at Lidra St (meeting just before the south crossing) every Saturday at 6pm. We will arrange events in the buffer zone, music, talks, art... etc and produce media to diffuse online, to stop being silent, to stop being invisible, to raise awareness of how our beautiful island has been divided and used as a military springboard, to propose new ways of thinking about the Cyprus question, to crumble the stale bread that we have been passing around for years.
Many people are asking "what will come of this?" I propose that this is the wrong question. The question is, moreso, "can we continue in silence about these atrocities that we have accepted as daily life?"

The 15th October Movement goes hand in hand with the current worldwide occupation against the monetary and political systems whilst at the same time having a unique footing. Everything is connected, and there is nothing casual about the current system and the division of this "unsinkable aircraft carrier anchored off the shores of the Levant", as the British so eloquently described Cyprus (see photos). Come, debate, meet those from "the other side", write your own news, dispel myths, make history."

This is just the Turks, getting a whiff of the proposed gas. They want their share and want ours too.

Don't think so mate.

Coming across as a more anarchic event, one more associated with the anti-capitalist demos we've seen in the West in recent weeks.

Yes peculiar this hasn't attracted attention from CY media. Stumbled across it quite by chance last night.

Surprised to hear them say CF is bad for CY... cos we've become pretty polite in recent months. Guess we're an acquired taste and very misunderstood cos we all love each other really don't we?

What do you mean ...."i said them not all of them likes what u are saying me" ... ???? Hope you're not saying bad things about us.

Good to hear of the questioning of the "motherlands" by these youngsters.
