Then, there are cypriots...

No, that's the easy explanation of a simplistic mind.

The reason foreigners took our jobs is because our filthy politicians are bribed by the rich (and infamous  ) to freely let cheap labor into CY.
The outcome is a rapid increase of unemployment.

It is not about bribes but about EU laws.

Bollocks! It's because the minimum wage is very low.

Sotos wrote:The reason is easy: cheap labor. Average salaries in some Eastern European countries are much lower than those in Cyprus so people from those countries are willing to accept less money for the same kind of work. This benefits the workers in the poorer Eu countries and of course the capitalists who can get cheaper labor ;) I think there should be a quota to the amount of EU workers that can move to an EU country as a percentage of the population. If a million EU workers move to UK that is like 2% of the population there. If a million Eu workers move to Cyprus that is 200% of the population...there should be a limit somewhere!

We could have suspended the EU law if we wanted like other countries (e.g. Malta).

The European Commission has so far received from the UK and Ireland notices of their intention to maintain also, after December 31, 2011 the transitional measures for Romanian and Bulgarian workers. Also Friday, the Belgian government decided to extend the “last” transition period in which access to the labor market in Belgium to be restricted to Romanian and Bulgarian citizens.

It is done deliberately. Cheep labor means "competitiveness" (low price of final product). Isn't it smart? Who gives a f* if the locals starve. Globalisation (i.e. importing starving masses from the East and the former Eastern Block into Europe) is the best way to keep production from moving to the East. Isn't it??

The foreigners in CY:

Specifically the 178 000 foreigners in Cyprus, 110 000 are community and other 68 000 are from third countries. From the Community's largest group is the Greeks 30 000, 26 000 British, 25 000 Romanians and Bulgarians 20 000. From third countries 11 000 are from the Philippines, 9 000 from Sri Lanka, 7 000 from Vietnam and 9 000 from Russia. "

This means the legal foreign residents constitute more than 20%.

If we account the many illegal immigrants and the illegal settlers and TA in the north, we'll soon end up being a minority in our own country.

When that happens I will not keep warning you fools, but I will start a cleaning process.

It will become even worse when the EU decides to become 'competitive' with China.

You should have checked out the local job market a bit better before moving.
