Cypriot Citizenship time frame

Postby cypriotdiva » Sun Feb 26, 2012 4:41 pm

I am Australian and about arrive with my family and I have a Cypriot father and Australian Mother. I have been told that I should wait and apply for my Citizenship directly when I arrive in Cyprus to reduce the delay in the process.... Can anyone help me with this? I have been told by some people that it takes over a year and by some that it takes only 10 days? Can anyone shed some light from previous experience. Thanks. :)

I don't know exactly but don't expect anything like 10 days ... a few months to a year is more reasonable.

Ohh don't except anything within 10 days, It will take few months. I think if u contact the Ministry of Interior it will be more easy for u and don't forget to take your receipt with u. I have a problem so similar. I was trying to contact them by phone, but nobody ever answers, it was very disappointing. The only way is to go in person.

It took me one visit to the ministry of the interior to find out what was required and then another visit to gain citizenship and passport on that same day.

you must have evedidence of parents cypriotnessness, passports ID cards etc

Good Luck

P.S. You may need a letter from the village Mouhktari to confirm certain information.

Nothing happens in cyprus by phone you must visit in person.
I think they are making it easier for overseas cypriots to get passports and citozenship as the trurkish cypriots are makingt it very easy for turks and the Republic was making it hard, so the balance of populations was changing dramatically.

Great thanks Guys,
I have a certified copy of my Dads (cyrpiot) passport and an original copy of his birth certificate. The same of my Mums (Aust) and then an original copy of their marriage certificate AND then the original of my own birth certificate - does this sounds correct? Do you know if this would be enough?

PS. Sorry to sound crazy but do they speak English at the Ministry of Interior? Do need to take an interpreter?
