Cyprus lacks major attractions

Postby georgios100 » Tue Mar 20, 2012 9:41 pm

When travelling, I make sure to visit major attractions of countries, like anyone would do.
If in Paris, the Eifel tower is a must. So is the Colosseum in Rome, CN tower in Toronto etc.

But Cyprus has no such offering, a major monument, a unique project, the biggest ferris wheel... nothing to speak of.
Yeah, there are beautiful beaches, scenic mountains and a few monasteries/museums but nothing extraordinary.

Perhaps it's time to do something about it. Something that would attract tourists all year round.

Any ideas out there?

No land marks to speak of. Have been saying this for years.

Well then George Cyprus is not the Country for you. Good luck in your travels. Personally I'd be happy to visit Cyprus any time of the year any year. I just holiday leave.

I love Cyprus precisely because it lacks such "attractions". We don't want another artificial place like Florida or Dubai.

The biggest blot on our lanscape that you could resemble an attraction is the turd on the Pentadaktylos.

It even glows in the dark.

Having said that, all that could change in the next few years with all the proposed developments we are hpoing to attrct.

Well, I am born a Cypriot so do love Cyprus with or without attractions.

Putting Cyprus on the map is another story. Cyprus should be the jewel of the Med and the most wanted destination for all peoples.
Attracting the upscale visitor (not the backpacker) is the essence. It promotes prosperity for all Cypriots.

I was recently in Punta Cana, RD. A popular winter destination amongst Canadians. Donald Trump is investing some 2 billion there but early enough
run into Dominican corruption and bureaucracy amidst other "unforeseen" obstacles. The project is called Capcana, an upscale villa, marina and golf resort.
The Cap Cana Marina is the largest in-land marina in the Caribbean. Cyprus could follow suit and build the largest marina in the Mediterranean, a safe haven for boaters and tourists alike. Just an idea that could fly...

They are slowly building a nice skyline with the skyscrapers and other planned buildings in Nicosia, Limassol and Larnaca

You can come and visit all those pointless wind farms that are sprouting up all over the place... :x
