Visiting closed areas in Nicosia and Famagusta.

Postby darsi » Wed Apr 04, 2012 3:40 pm

Hi, all.

Is here anybody who can help me to visit buffer zone in Nicosia (streets inside the city and airport) and closed part in Varosha (Famagusta)?
May be someone has friends in UN or Turkish forces, who can organize such visits.

I'll be in Cyprus from 14 till 17 of April.

Thanks a lot!

You don't need an escort, just have a wander round those areas by yourself.

Candidate for the Darwin awards?

Precisely for this reason I ask for help :)

I know that it's possible - i've seen many photos made by men who'd visitied buffer zone in Nicosia and closed area in Varosha with the help of UN or turkish soldiers.
For example - http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/46688.asp, http://boeing.livejournal.com/145024.html, and many others.

welcome darsi,

i suggest as a first step, visit the Occupation of the Buffer Zone on Ledras st, in Nicosia.

...you may find a guide

and if you are compelled to take this dangerous mission, be aware of the consequences, "Greeks" and "Turks" are not as friendly as the Cypriots who can use this help.

...i got a job as a stringer for a Wire Service, with these credentials i visited (but not freely); that was a long time ago.

Only 3 days in Cyprus and this is what you want to concentrate on.

Pity!
