Want to buy a Car from UK and bring it to CYPRUS *NEED HELP*

Postby Enema » Mon Oct 03, 2005 4:54 pm

Hello my fellow members of Cyprus Forum, my name is Enema and im from Cyprus, Nicosia.

My first post is unfortunately a help request.

As the title suggests, i want to buy a car from the UK and bring it to Cyprus.

The car that i want to buy will be chosen by UK's good internet websites for car sales.

Please note that the car im intrested will be more than 8 years old. The model im targeting may range from 93 to 98.

The websites that im viewing cars are:

www.ebay.co.uk
www.autotrader.co.uk

The prices are very good since ranging from 2K to 3K, while here in cyprus are 4.5+ maybe 5K!

So you understant the reason why i want to save a few bucks.

I was wondering how I will do that, if there's an agency to bring my car from ANY place in UK ( since the cars that are being sold from the internet are from all over the UK ) , to Limassol, and I pick it up.

What are the costs?

Also, since it will be a faceless trade, i will not be able to see the car and therefor not able to inspect, so i will hire AA , www.theAA.com to inspect my car if its worthly.

What are your comments?

Any post will be appriciated.

This is a no-brainer!

Read all the other threads on bringing cars to Cyprus then don’t do it.

Sorry to be negative but buy a car here instead.

Emma,

I asked the same question and had a good enough reply.

Read the thread titled : Should I buy in Cyprus or import from UK

on page 2.

I think you will find all that you are looking for.

I hope this helps.

At very least you will have to pay £1500 +VAT just to register the car and have it MOT here.

So you see the UK price is not really that good unlees the is >£3000 difference in price to make it worth your whils.

Rememeber you will also need to ship it (£500 approx) not to mention the god damn hassle you'll have going about it.

Sorry to sound so bad about it, but its true, thats life in Cyprus, you either learn to accept it, or go back. I am currently fighting this decision. I am told, however, it gets easier by people who have been through the mill already.

regards

Emma,

sorry to confuse you. the thread is in the front page about 17 or topics below yours and consists of 4 pages. Read all the posts by all means, but i think what you need is on page 3. Sorry to confuse.

My brother-in-law brought over a used Audi A6 from the UK and it had 125,000 KM on the meter. The process was very easy, we where all very suprised at how fast the car got here. He paid for it using Steling in the UK and they sent it to Cyprus. The costs and taxes where quite high but because he brought over a luxury car he ended up saving quite a fair amount. He told me that he could still sell for a profit even now, 12 months after he brought it over from the UK.

My advise is if you are bringing over a luxury car is, make sure you don't end up paying more than it would cost to buy it from Cyprus!!

I will try and find out the costs for the container, VAT, Shipping, Taxes, and Registration very soon and let you know. Even though you could just call the customs department and find out.

Hi Enema

Apart form the hassle and risk, it will not save you money, I am sure. My advice: don't do it!

To own a car here in Singapore, you have to pay 10,000 pounds to get a Government licence!!!!!

PS
Enema is an unfortunate choice of name for a forum memeber.

Warm soapy water springs to mind (or a decent curry) :) :)

Hi davidp

I am currently staying in the Embassy in Tanglin Road; there is an armed guard on the Gate and Kalashnikov AK-100s armed guards patrol the grounds at night. If I wish to go out in the evening, I have to 'show myself' (if you will excuse the expression!) to make sure they do not think I am an intruder.

By my bed is a note on what to do if I receive a bomb threat telephone call (note: tone of voice, background noises etc etc) - good relaxing reading!

The Bali bombing has heightened security here, believe me.

Back to safe old Paphos next week, where the only bombs will be from a business rivals

Back to the thread: The Governemnt restrict the number of cars in Singapore by restricting the number of licences - and no car can be more than 10 years old.
