Car rental

Postby jasperzzz » Wed Jun 20, 2012 11:25 am

This summer we (a friend and I) will go to Cyprus for a week. The first 4 days we will stay in Paphos (Pafos) and the weekend we will stay in Ayia Napa.
We would like to hire a car, so we are nog independent of the buses.
When I google for a car rental company on Cyprus I find a lot different company's, but I don't now which one is reliable.

Can anyone recommend a car rental company? It doesn't matter if the company is in Larnana (airport) or in Paphos.

I have already fond a few company's:

http://www.stevenscarrentals.com --> This site looks reliable, anyone experience with this one?
http://www.cyprus-rent-a-car.info --> This one also gave me a reliable impression, because the site is available in Dutch, English and German. (I am from Holland)

I have also another question; at the website of the most company's I read that the driver of the car needs to be at least 25 years old or at least 3 years in possession of a drivers licenses. When I am in Cyprus I will almost have my drivers licenses for 3 years, we will be their from august 20 to august 27, I have my drivers licenses since august 30 2009, so at that time almost 3 years. Will this be a problem?

I hope someone can answer my questions.
Thanks in advance.

Most of car rentals are quite reliable in Cyprus, so unless you want rental car available in airport arrival, better come down here and check for better pricing ... You will find many rentals on either cities.

Also, there wont be any issue due to license holding period, You need to have valid driving license.

Try these. Have used them both over the years...

http://www.fontana-car-rentals.net/

http://www.economycarhire.com/car-hire-cyprus/ ...(they have a call centre in GB)

In common with all the hire cos, they'll meet you on arrival at LCA or PFO.

As to insurance, yes 25 is pretty much the standard minimum age but as to holding a licence for min 3 years, you really need to clear it with whoever you hire from.

Welcome to CF.

Both, thank you for the answers.

So I think it is the easiest to go to Cyprus and over there look for a local rental company and rent a car.
Because if I am there I can also ask the company if it is a problem that I don't have my drivers license for 3 years.

But is there a change that when I come to Cyprus, in August, that there will be no cars available?

http://www.fontana-car-rentals.net/ --> On this site I can only search in the year 2009, that seem a bit strange to me:-)

http://www.economycarhire.com/car-hire-cyprus/ --> If I search there for a car rental and give my age (21), it says there are no available cars, you must be at least 25 years old. So that's not an option.

August is the peak of the holiday season... you run the risk of having a limited choice of cars.

Think you need to speak on the phone to someone.

Have a word with Economy Car rentals in GB ... From within the UK 0845 450 0877 From outside the UK +44 (0)1362 853938

or try Petsas... one of the biggest car hire firms, who are on-aiport and say about young drivers...

... " For drivers under 25 years of age who have had a full driving licence under 3 years at the time of rental, we must be advised at time of reservation in order to arrange insurance coverage for them.... "
