Areeba introducing "Push to Talk" in Cyprus

Postby andytandreou » Sat Oct 08, 2005 10:39 am

Imagine you're in a supermarket doing the shopping for the family. So far so good.... You get to the first section and quickly realise that you need to call your spouse and ask if you need bread. Then you get to the next isle and realise that you need to call again and ask if you need shampoo. It quickly becomes apparent that a mobile phone is impractical and it would be much better if you had a walkie-talkie to communicate.

Areeba is introducing a service called "Push to talk" which does exactly that. The service works with most new mobile phones, so if you've been wondering what the hell "push to talk" options where doing on your Sony Ericsson then wonder no more.

The service is really smart and allowes people to have instant voice communication without having to wait for connections. You dont even have to wait for the other person to answer to phone. The service is very smart and allowes you to set your status for example "Away", "Do Not disturb", "Online" etc...

From what I gather from Areeba website for Push To Talk, the service is available for £10 per month or 1.7 cents per push.

Yet another reason to switch to Areeba.

I really can forsee people saying "Push me" when you get to the supermarket...

Sounds good, Maybe we can just actusally buy walkie talkies tho at about £40? Or maybe the push to talk service does not have a distance restriction?

Do you work for Areeba??

Exactly... walkie talkies have many restrictions like bad sound quality and distance restrictions. You would also have to carry it with you everywhere and that would be impractical. If your phone supports push-to-talk you wouldn't need to spend a penny, just start "pushing" people. lol..

ps i dont work for areeba, I just passionatley hate cyta!

Monthly charge Subscribers will be charged £10.00 per month for unlimited usage.

If distance is not an issue then can you use this feature to make all your calls with that 10 pounds?

I heard there is a restriction on the use of the service so it wont be abused. If for example you keep talking to the same person over and over and at short intervals the system will block that activity and then you will have to call that person.

It also protects you from people who might be annoying you CONSTANTLY, temporarily banning them so their only option would be to make a direct call to you.

Sotos, the same could be said for text messages, they are cheaper than a call but they will never replace calls will they?

Does this mean you can only ask your other half about half the shopping list then ? It'll be easier to write it down. However, push to talk would be useful in emergencies, no need to dial a long number just "PUSH TO TALK" . That'll be a good slogan, don't you think. Come Areeba pay up !!!

Ha Ha.

After their rude and arrogant technical support I got on their phone (Can't download from some sites and tracerts always come up with router problems) I too hate them with a passion. They still haven't resolved it and I doubt they will. Perhaps an email will do the trick

I called Cyta once so they could give me more information on a service wich they provide. I wanted more info on the 7777xxxx numbers that they give to businesses. The guy on the phone was CLUELESS... he even suggested that I call someone who has the service already and ask them how they handle their calls!!! I was shocked and amazed at how unproffesional they are!

I have to give them credit here Hazza. They always answer their email although it's usually in a few days not hours like other busineses.

Another new service from Areeba is the "Areeba Friends":
Areeba Friends is an optional monthly service that allows you to select your favorite Areeba numbers and call them with no extra charge or with a 50% discount
No other network in Cyprus gives you free time to call your favourite people…You will pay a fixed monthly fee and then you don’t have to worry about the cost of keeping in touch with friends and family.
