Mobile networks in Cyprus. Which one shall I go for?

Postby Halcyon » Sun Oct 16, 2005 10:02 pm

Hello every1!

I've been to Cyprus twice (2.5 weeks in Sept/Oct 2001, and 1.5 weeks in Oct 2004) and I must say that I love your beautiful island and its friendly people... I have many friends on Cyprus :D and I've been pretty much all over the south of the island.

I'm happily planning my third visit (staying 2 weeks, or more  ) for the end of the year and into January and I'll probably need to get a Cyprus mobile phone number and sim card. Can anyone please tell me which are the mobile networks in Cyprus, and what are their rates (calls and sms) and sim card costs? Also, can some1 pls fill me in regarding the quality of the reception?

Thanks for your time. I look forward to reading your replies,

Kind regards,

"Halcyon"

If you are only here for a couple of weeks, I'd go for a SoEasy simcard which costs around £15 (Cyp) but you get £5 credit on it. Network coverage, I can't fault it, I get coverage everywhere, including up in the moutains.

Agreed,

Cyta’s network has fantastic coverage all over the island. If you add CY£10 to the SoEasy card the credit remains for over a year.

I know a guy that just bough an Areeba pay-as-you-go ‘phone and the reception he gets is lousy. Worse, the 1,000 free texts that he got with it are useless as they don’t have agreements with some of the big networks to use them (like Vodafone for instance).

That makes sense – get two phones, one you can use in the towns and the other you can use… well all over the island.

Don’t make the mistake of becoming another Areeba ‘early adopter’.

Thanks for your replies!

I hope to spend New Year's Eve on Cyprus, if I manage to get away from work!

Definately get a phone out there, Twice i've been it's been so frustrating, first i had a virgin mobile phone last year where i couldn't even change the network on,
and this year I took a T-Mobile phone and I bought a So easy sim package, but only to find my phone was locked so i couldn't enter pin/puk numbers etc.

So ended up buying phone cards - and have you ever tried using a phone box in Cyprus?
Man it's confusing!

Then again i am blonde :)
