One day NOVA Cyprus will be better than Nova Greece and you will regret ever getting it. Can i ask you sotos: Is nova Greece digital? If it isn't then you don't know what you're missing!!

Its not me that wants Nova Greece  Nova Greece is digital like Nova Cyprus. It is basically the same thing except Nova Cyprus has LTV and Alpha while Nova Greece has Filmnet,1,2,3 and 7-8 Greek channels. If somebody is not interested in Cyprus football then Nova Greece is much better value in my opinion.

There is a way to have it multi-room but the installation costs more.

If you want sent me a PM to give you the contact details of a company that does this sort of things good.

Sotos you dont say where the person who wants Nova Greece lives!

If its Cyprus be aware that Nova Greece does not have an agreement to broadcast here. I found this out when I sent an email to them on behalf of a neighbour who had lost some channel reception. Response from Nova Greece was promt terse and with the threat of legal action.

Like most bona fide satellite broadcasters Nova Greece have legal agreements as to where their broadcast services may be recieved. Providing they dont know about reception in Cyprus its OK, once they know then its a different matter.

Telephone communication with Nova Greece from Cyprus causes no problems its only when they get a written communication email or otherwise from Cyprus that they get legal

Rotate, do you think Nova Greece doesn't know what is going on in Cyprus?

They are just playing stupid and receive the profits.

I don't think there is a way (yet) to limit satellite per country. There are people in Cyprus that install 3 meter dishes in order to get Sky.

Piratis, of course Nova Greece know whats going on in Cyprus as does SKY.

BUT just every so often a little show has to be put on for the sake of the international broadcasting regulatory authorities. Hence the threatened/ intended prosecution of a UK SKY card user in Paphos, who after his home was burgled and his satellite receiver and SKY card were stolen contacted SKY to cancel the card only to be told that he would most likely be prosecuted for using the card in Cyprus and receiving SKY broadcasts.

Stop Nova Greece and to a lesser degree SKY being received in Cyprus and the broadcasters month end profit decreases. But catch a little fish now and again so that he can be held up as an example of the broadcasters willingness to apply agreements and no one looks any further.

Some years ago when I was living in Larnaca and before the onset of the satellite TV revolution just about everybody I knew, both Cypriot and British erected the required antenna and tuned into BFBS TV (British Forces Broadcasting Services) so that they could either watch UK/European football or some ghastly soap. Strictly speaking receiving BFBS in the RoC outside of the SBA's was illegal under the RoC broadcasting laws. Periodically BFBS would change its TV broadcast frequency to satisfy the requirements of the RoC government, this would then be followed by Larnaca residents changing their reception frequencies accordingly.

It was not until the privately owned cable TV stations arrived on the scene in Cyprus and paid for the transmission rights of football matches that the RoC applied gentle pressure on BFBS to do something about its free match broadcasts to the residents of Larnaca and district, after all nobody wanted to pay Lumiere and the other private stations for something thay had previously gotten for free. BFBS then introduced their own set top receivers to control reception and for a limited period reception was curtailed. However Cypriots being pretty inventive when their backs are up against the wall or where football and money are involved soon came up with their own set top to receive BFBS, these work very well! The RoC Government had applied the law and BFBS had complied. But like Nova Greece and SKY the unauthorised reception of BFBS TV does break the broadcasting agreements/laws and prosecution of the individual is possible.

Just dont put it in writing that in Cyprus you receive Nova Greece SKY or for that matter BFBS

Thanks for the warning rotate! Are there any other disadvantages with Nova Greece? I am assuming quality is the same as Nova Cyprus since they are both digital from the same satellite.

Hi Sotos,
Not that I have Nova Greece you will understand!

Reception is excellent, but programme timings are all over the place.

If you pay 3 months, 6 months or I year in advance to earn a discount with a Cypriot credit card there will always be a problem upon subscription renewel. Nova Greece give the wrong card information to the credit card company (Bank) and authorisation is refused, young lady from the Hellenic bank in Nicosia told my 'neighbour' that she and other customers have had the same problem. Consequently this requires numerous phone calls to Athens and the Cypriot credit card company. Of course this then means that an additional charge is then made by Nova Greece for reconnection or whatever its called, the unkind might think that this is deliberate to get more money out of the customer or that heaven forbid the Greeks dont much like Cypriots! watching their TV that is. Before applying it might be as well to check with your credit/debit card supplier if they have encountered similar problems. One way around this problem is to use a credit card issued somewhere other than Cyprus, since my 'neighbour' has used a UK issued card the problem has stopped.

On the whole programming is excellent with all the normal stuff plus plenty of old Greek comedy movies. Greek TV series are as you would expect several weeks in advance of anything shown in Cyprus and my 'neighbours' wife has had to be instructed not to tell everyone else in the village whats going to happen next. Perhaps surprisingly the most popular programme shown at the moment is a Turkish drama series! Required viewing in the village with an invited audience of seven or eight in the house when its showing. Some of the older ladies dont read the sub-titles so quick so they have to be read out for them. A curious sight to see a group of GC ladies watching, translating and enjoying what looks to be a well made Turkish drama series, funny old world perhaps theirs hope for us all yet!
