I think you will find.....Gmail has become a contentious subject...and there is a legal battle going on as to who first used the name........as far as I recall..the name used for google's e-mail is currently "Googlemail" to new applicants.......although I have had a gmail account for ages

speaking about search engines.... do you know any that indexes cypriot sites? google doesn't seem to be doing a great job here

I think google does ok. The problem is not Google but with some of the crappy Cypriot sites. All good Cypriot sites are indexed with google i think.

it is not up to the search engine so much as to wether you register with them properly or not.

With search engines you don't register. They find you. You have to create your web site in a search engine friendly way and many Cypriot websites don't do that.
