... news, that for weeks, the pretend sewage works serving the tourist area of Occupied Boghasi hasn't been working, with the result that raw and untreated sewage has been dumped in to water-courses.

People up there aren't too happy with the pong from "trnc's" ineptitude to treat their shite.

THIRTY Cyprus beaches were cleaned up during the first Let’s do it Mediterranean – We Clean Seas and Shores in One Day campaign held on Saturday as part of the European clean up day.

A total of 1,025 volunteers participated in the event, collecting 695kg of rubbish and 153kg of recyclables. During the day 10 beaches were cleaned in Limassol, five in Larnaca, five in Famagusta, and 10 in Paphos.

Five groups of divers (CyTA, Port Police, Police Divers, Ocean Rangers Cyprus and Blueinstinct) also pulled bed furniture, rugs, tyres, glass etc out of the sea.

According to co-organisers of the event Let’s do it Cyprus, Let’s Do it Mediterranean is considered to be the biggest voluntary Mediterranean clean up action and aims at drawing attention to the pollution of the Mediterranean Sea and at motivating communities to work together to change the situation.

Let’s do it Cyprus is part of Let’s Do it World, a world clean up campaign based on volunteerism and aiming at the cleaning up of the world’s natural areas from rubbish. Today more than 100 countries participate in Let’s do It World.

A separate event due to be held as part of the same campaign where 3,000 students and teachers from 50 schools were to clean up their areas on May 9 was cancelled due to the rain and will be arranged later.

A further event saw WEEE Electrolysis Cyprus and AFIS Cyprus collect and recycle electric and electronic devices and domestic batteries.

From May 5 until May 10, eleven tons of electric and electronic devices were collected.
