Stop the hate.

Let others be ...

let others be, what?? better people because the take bold steps to embrace change for the better?

...i am not so proud of being Greek because "Greeks" choose to sustain an elite which resists the changes they must make in themselves toward a betterment that is Universal; in my opinion, very unGreek.

...i hope Greeks will realise that a Forum for their Expression exists as a Constituency, that this is the step which seperates, in Cyprus, the State from looking at its Citizens as a vast majority being "Greeks" because their adversary as the debate is now framed are "Turks", focusing instead on Cyprus itself, toward its credibility as a Sovereign Representative without distinction or discrimination. if there was a Greek Constituency, recognition for other Constituencies is possible by Territorial Jurisdictions, with an equal opportunity to sustain their distinctions as people. (surely you'll agree that Greek Cypriots will be held in high esteem for this). Cypriots need to fly their Flag because it identifies a betterment to the Principals, as Human Beings, they live by. Nation/State, Person/Individual, Liberty/Freedom: these are central to a Bicommunal way of life; it is not a "Greek"/"not Greek" issue, and as Cypriots this is the commitment we have taken, to define BBF to the benefit of all Mankind.

Get Real! wrote:Some of you come across no different to soccer fanatics! It’s like you were born in a football team but haven’t matured enough yet to get out of it!

The good news is that you don’t have to be part of any man-made team!

Just like religions, ethnicities are man-made baloney to control populations but you don’t have to be part of it… you can be free of all that if you choose to.

Ethnicity is not like a football team ... but why would I change teams anyway? You probably think that if we say we are not Greek and that we are not Christian then the TCs will say that they are not Turkish and not Muslim and then we will create the "Cypriot Ethnicity" and the "Cypriot Religion" and become a loving family with no differences and live happily ever after  Get Real! ;) This is the real world ... not a fairy tale!!

You are confused ;) The Phoenicians inhabited Cyprus... but all the others you mention above were just foreign empires who subjected Cyprus to their rule... they didn't inhabit Cyprus in any significant numbers. They would just send their armies whenever it was needed to force their rule and some tax collectors and maybe a few people for administration. They were like the British during British rule... and their presence was even less, all they cared for was to collect taxes.

Just like we have British living with their families in Cyprus by choice today, we used to have Persian, Egyptian e.t.c families who chose to live in Cyprus as well. By and large, they were eventually largely assimilated by the dominant culture of Cyprus at the time.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... 3w#t=1033s I bookmarked it for you. Check it out!

Most of these British ... usually pensioners... not families, came recently. Not during British rule ;) I didn't say that immigrants never came to Cyprus ... some immigrants came before like they are coming now and like they are going everywhere. So what? Are the French not French because foreigners immigrate to France? Are the English not English because foreigners immigrate to Britain?

I never said that. It's just that Greekislandgirl's notion that 'we are pure thoroughbred descendants of Greek settlers and sole champions of human civilization against the Turkish scourge who seek to undo our work' sounds both absurd and racist to me.

I can't blame her though. That's what we were all taught at school, and by the books of religious charlatans and cuckoos like Paisios.

The reason you shouldn't blame her is not because of books... you shouldn't blame her because the Turks occupy 1/3rd of Cyprus and we are all very justified to hate them because of this. It is racism to hate people because of their race ... to hate those who invaded you and occupy your homeland is not racism!

That's a rather cheap shot to get out of answering Sotos. I don't welcome your paraphrasing what I may have or may not have said in a manner to suit yourself, much less your patronising "forgiveness".

Your proposal is looking less and less "humble".

Ordinary people. Like the ordinary person he describes above who is merely happy to have a better car. That is true of many ordinary people and has nothing to do with whether they are Greek or not.

Cyprus wasn't invaded by the 60 million Turks who comprise the Turkish nation, it was invaded by the imperialistic, expansionist government of Turkey. Hating, and even fighting against the Turkish government, and the Turkish army for the atrocities they commit daily is understandable. Hating on a random average person for no reason other than his or her birthplace is racism.

I don't wish to be re-directed to a youtube. You have a deep-seated hate of those who are comfortable in their own skins. Let them be, in their humble desires. You, on the other hand, are clearly not humble.

And who voted into power the imperialistic, expansionist government of Turkey? The Martians? No it was the imperialistic, expansionist PEOPLE of Turkey who vote into power such governments every time. And not only the government but every significant political party in Turkey supports that north Cyprus is Turkish. Can you name me even one main political party in Turkey which supports something different? Not all Turks are like that and I would not hate a Turk who supports the freedom of Cyprus... but such Turks are very very few... they are the EXCEPTION which proves the rule.

Humble is part of the topic of your thread. How is it "straw man"? (Proving once again how you excel at setting up digressions.)

Dr Cyprus,

Ignore the Greek wannabes, they are weak minded.

They would readily subordinate our Island to a people (Greece) that we have little in common with and readily bow down to their pathetic rule.

Their inferiority complex is plain to see, no wonder the Turks scoff at them.

In 1974, they gave the Turks the excuse they always wanted and the fruits of the Greek wannabe is plain to see - the loss of 37% of our beloved Island.

Furthermore, their agenda gives rise to a quasi-solutions from the UN in the form of BBF, because it allows the wannabes to play at being Greeks and the TCs at being Turks.

Our recent dealings with Greece has been disastrous, but the greek wannabe blindly refuses to learn from recent history.

Dr Cyprus, keep up the good work!
