News of more promises in "kktc su temin projesi", now no water 'til May 2015.

A CY PIO summary ...

"... Turkish Cypriot daily Vatan (28.12.14) reported that Ozdemir Cakacak, Governor of Mersin, accompanied by the Vice General Director of the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSI) Guven Karacuha and the Director of the Anamur Department of DSI Ali Cakmak, inspected the sea water pipe of the Alakopru dam for the water supply of the occupied area of the Republic of Cyprus at Anamur district.

Karacuha stated that the terrestrial part of the project has been completed and when the works of piling water pipes in a distance of 10.5 km in the sea is finished, then the water will start to flow to the “TRNC” on May 2015. ..."

it can be may 2020 for all i care cahrlui, we waited for 60 years just a few more will do no harm at all.

Ah, but the "harm" is being done all the time, cousin.

You see, most of the water consumed up there is from underground sources. Figures are that in excess of 90% comes from ground sources. Would you agree brother...???

In particular, it is from the big aquifer under the Occupied Karpas and from the huge aquifer under Occupied Morphou. The latter is said to be the biggest aquifer on the Island.

... and the Illegal Settlers you all love so much have been busy, busy pumping away; the aquifers shrinking in size and the water down there getting more and more brackish.

So there is a time limit dear Lardo, is it "2020"? Well who knows, but it cert won't last "60 years".

Maybe a typo or something, the distance between the Turkey outgoing and Cyprus incoming points is more than 80 kilometers.

The tankers could have been on route years ago, delivering 150 000 tons daily, and the desal plant since last year with EU financing at 40 000 tons daily. But they needed to showcase "tergish engineering" which is to say designed in the UK and laid by foreign ships. There is something screwy about this project.

nikitas forgets what happened to the water that was brought in a tanker to limasol from greece few years back. there is a reason why they have never tried it again.

why all this nonsense about the pipe line. what are you really afraid of. can it do any more damage to tc gc relations after the damage you boys have done for 60 years. you are in for a rude awakening.

Yes, "screwy" indeed.

Particularly "screwy" when looked at from the angle of the alternatives, which, along with water management, sustainable water use by agriculture and recycling, include desalination plants.

For the money this project is costing, the CYs up there could have had a number of desalination plants, up and running, say within a year, producing multiples of the claimed 75 millions tonnes a year of "kktc su temin projesi", with the taps under the control of CYs...

... and isn't this the point...??? Turkish water under the control of Turkey, water on Turkey's terms, an "umbilical cord" indeed.
