If you want all the UK channels a Sky system is required – costs about CY£850 with a 2.7m dish and free-to-air card.

You can have a smaller dish (~1m) which will receive BBC Prime and BBC World along with about 800 foreign channels but I wouldn’t recommend it.

We have BBC Prime/World, Euronews, along with the French and Swiss free channels (plus many more, including ENBC, CNN, Bloomberg etc. and hundreds of others). We watch mainly documentaries and news, although wifey likes Doctors, Casualty and Holby City (she likes these soaps as she was in the medical profession). I draw the line at Eastenders which is a no-no (happily coincident with the Swiss Téléjournal, which is a yes-yes). We often watch the documentaries on the Chinese CCTV chain: they are often first-class. If you choose this option, it would be MUCH cheaper to import the hardware from the UK or Germany and install it yourself, if you are capable of orienting the dish. If not, beware there are many sharks in the sat business in this country. Get many quotes. I would say that anything over £200 is excessive (incl a pirated card for BBC Prime).

Yeah I was looking at importing a setup from the UK with the rest of my stuff but wasn't sure if the equipment would all be compatible; indeed even if the dish is big enough.

My partner's footie mad so I was looking at taking a sub to ART Sports that you need to tune in to Hotbird to receive. I've had a quick look on some of the Cyprus sat retailer sites but they really confusing for the most :(

For Hotbird you do not need a large dish - ~1m is enough.

Honestly... I don't know what these people have against Sattellite TV bought in Cyprus.

They have made every single suggestion under the sun except from the most obvious and legal one.

Simple...

Get Nova Cyprus, installation is cheap and along with the equipment will only set you back £70!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You get LTV and Alpha chanels (which are top class) plus another 200 chanels, all in pristine digital format! Unlimited digital radio channels too.

You will also have an experienced crew of people willing to help when you are having unexpected difficulties (which you are bound to have with a complicated set-up). You will also have someone to call when your remote breaks into a billion pieces one day!!

Nova also has features not currently offered by Sky. With Nova you can change the spoken language of the broadcast from Greek To English or visa- versa.

NOVA CYPRUS!

Once the online advertising (ie website) also supports this function then i expect there will be more non-Greek speakers subscribing !!

andytandreou, I think most british people would prefer to watch their own TV channels. LTV and Alpha are OK but if you are not interested about Cyprus football it doesn't worth the money imo.

There is a VERY high price to pay just so you can see the same stuff but branded under a different chanel name. Trust me Sotos i watched the Chealsea v. Man United match 2 weeks ago on Alpha and i had the option of hearing the voice in Greek or English. With a touch of a button I could hear the Enlgish voice and it was EXACTLY like watching in the UK. Alpha is an international Sports chanel also.

LTV doesn't have any shows in Greek, i believe it's all English!

Honestly for £70 for so many chanels it's really, really worth it. AND NO CHANELS ARE IN GREEK! (unless you switch audio options)....

Sky is also more expensive per month than Nova. Nova is £27 and sky is something like £37.50 right?
